Any updates on recent or future layoffs?

What’s known so far:

  2. Outside term employees let go in C&E org
  3. Marachel Knight “retirement” meaning pull the golden ripcord or be fired
  4. Unknown # of mobility techs?
  5. Future?

I was laid off last month and the thing that pi---s me off is I willing took all the COVID vaccine shots in hopes to keep my job here. Took one for the team and got kicked to the curb! I sure hope all the bad things I've read about ongoing health issues with the vaccine is false!!

The "rumor" I have heard from a higher up is 25% by end of 2023. No info on where the cuts will come from.

A lot of WFH positions will be outsourced to save money. The COVID era proved that many jobs can be done remotely.

The numbers listed in the original post only reflect 2023 Q1 layoffs. There will be additional phases next year.

A lot of the contracting out depends on the regional labor agreement’s. A lot of talk has been to hire and rehire term employees after the dust settles and the build resumes.

3rd level in MW has said 30% management in jeopardy via reductions, which seems outrageous but the budget is to be drastically reduced for future builds. Seems like this is the start of the AT$T movement of getting contractors in as many roles as possible, train them up and restart the build. Good bye ATT careers. I’m gone on 12/30…I can’t stay at this toxic dump anymore. Good luck to all !

I wouldn’t count on there not being any craft layoffs. Installation is an entry level job that has high turnover for obvious reasons including toxicity. There is always a need for replacements in that org.

Bargained employees have a wide range of job skills and some will definitely be targeted with the slowdown. If the company doesn’t get more money from the feds to build out fiber broadband then look for more layoffs in the sphere, it’s why they terminated the term techs now before there contracts were up.

Also centers are always a favorite target of the company

Nobody in ATS had been surprised yet.

There are 162,x-x employees as of last week.

Corey Anthony, in October said he expects to shed about 600-800 of his 12k employees. This is in the same org as ACE who reported on early September there will be cuts.

There is currently 141 of these positions throughout the country posted in Careers on the AT&T website, so I don't think craft layoffs are coming anytime soon.

Only one way for AT&T to get rid of the union represented old timers. Tho old tried and true, proven successful, enhanced offer. How sweet it is!

Even with job postings, expect a disproportionate amount of layoffs. This is by design, ex: 10 employees laid off ( high pay ) , 3 new job postings for new hires at 1/3 the cost.

There are also job postings for 4 Network Technical Specialists in the West for Arizona.

Nice to see a layoff thread with a couple exceptions that has civility and information that has a ring of truth to it.

There’s like 4-5 jobs posted for wireless techs right now, so not sure if they will be laying off those positions.

More layoffs for sure, but WHO, Which business unit, WHERE and WHEN is the big question! If you have been with T long enough, this should be no surprise to you! If you're relatively new to T, then beware, this is an ongoing practice that never ends!

My guess is manage will lose their pension in 2023 or 2024. This will start the exodus without the buyout needed. I hear on our weekly call we should expect layoffs in 2023.

There will be an enhanced buyout offer of 5 years to service, 5 years to age and $5K per year of service for CWA represented technicians in March 2023. The management team desperately needs to make things happen. You can take it to the bank and that’s a fact, Jack!

Yes, the update is that there will be more layoffs in 2023, but there will not be any incentives to retire early other than taking away your retirement benefits or reducing your current benefits. It's really a lose-lose any which way you decide to go!

Direct sales and support roles will be heavily impacted. Strategy is to heavily leverage AR ( authorized retail) for stores, transition direct sales and service resources in business to SP ( Solution Providers ) and contract employees for customer support on sales teams, continued outsourcing of engineering, and rebadging of order and billing support where union contracts are either close to expiration or loopholes exist. It’s not good folks…..

Still too top heavy, need reductions in staff, friends and family positions that don't add any value to the company. Their constant job justifying changes only make it more frustrating and nonproductive for producing employees.

Cut the fat, make the exec’s execute on business and quit contracting out to consultants and staff.
