I was a PM4 then had a title change to a BEC3 after a reorg. No change in job duties. My manager told me there was no difference between the two. Of course, he lied and I found out much later that the bonus structure was less. I had no way of fighting it.

The BEC is supposed to be a business analyst. In fact they are glorified note keepers. They are not trained. They get their job thru a...s.. kicking. They are any or all of these (business analyst antipatterns)
- The Order Taker: The BEC simply documents exactly what stakeholders say they want without questioning, analyzing, or challenging the requests. Then they load up the Jira requests.

We get paid a lot and aren’t really sure what we do either. HOWEVER- our PPT skills are phenomenal.

A BEC is basically an Analyst that finally transitioned from being an hourly employee to salary based.
