I think that's an excellent question that someone asked here in one of the threads.

Bargained for employees are the backbone of this company and will be spared because of their need! The company has big plans and the technicians are the ones that get it done! More power to the ones that get it done!
Cuts will never ever stop, regardless of company health ( which is poor right now).
Why ? Because they can cut high expense employees , wait 6 months and hire off the street at a third of the cost…they’ve done it for years as well and many other companies.
att should be able to work with around 100,000 - 125,000 employees.
the question is who will work the strikes?
What I find really funny is when they announced the mass layoffs of 2019 -- you remember, when Poppin Fresh described it as the peanut butter not being even -- one of the things Stink and company said was that they were reducing the number of levels in order to increase efficiency.
Naturally, when the layoffs were announced, there was no reduction in levels. Aside from a token SVP or two, all the layoffs were for L1 and L2 employees. Directors and above were spared.
Here we are now and nothing has changed.
Hey, as long as Stankey still has his job, we'll be just fine. 😄 That guy can do anything. He's a universal expert.
I don't think there's going to be as much head count reduction in this company as most people anticipate. I believe T will just let those that plan on retiring to leave and just not back fill their positions. It's a win-win for T because they don't have to pay the severance, while natural attrition takes care of the rest. SO, for those that are hoping and praying for some kind of severance package, don't hold your breaths!
Automation has been full speed ahead for almost 10 years now. Only gets stronger every year.
What else you gonna do with people that ain't needed anymore? Gotta run a business.
Kick the ringers to the curb, its time.
The people most worried about cuts are the ones that should be worried. They are like the ones that should be cut.
Here's a novel concept, get rid of all the sh---y little AVPs and Directors who can only work a powerpoint chart and order takeout on their corporate credit cards to host mindless staff meetings where they pretend to "lead" their "teams".
Doesn't matter the SMEs who've worked for 20 years and know the systems inside and out have to teach the AVPs everything they should've already known but couldn't grasp because they don't have the technical background. Doesn't matter one stinkin' bit; the AVPs are still "in charge" because they believe (wrongly) they are "leaders".
I haven't seen one teaspoon-full of Leadership since I've been at AT&T. All I've seen is one sh-t decision after another by sh---y people thinking they are humanity's gift to business.
Cut the executives compensation
Most likely, if you are an overworked mgmt employee, there's not much left to cut in your area. Those that have a lot of time to engage in the company activities, browse around to learn PLE and perform other non-core activities probably need to be concerned.
In addition, and another poster mentioned it, if your job can be done in your home it can be done in another country. That will be part of the equation going forward to cut costs and increase the ebidta.
Very thankful to have a pension, 2 years left to retirement and knowing I've put myself in a very good situation to remain in place.
This is why I’ve never left craft for management. Company will always need boots on the ground and they can’t always sub contract. If you can do your job remotely , you can bet the company will offshore it or eliminate it.
If it has been asked, why ask again? Many teams still have too many folks. People are going to make ridiculous suggestions without much of an insight beyond their own teams but will speak like the experts they think they are. So many unhappy keyboard bangers.
Cut Stinkey!
they could by with about 100,000 to 125,000 workers. why they keep so many on the payroll is beyond me. maybe it is to work the strikes or have a bargaining chip.
Automation is going to set in full speed starting next year.
Cut management, increase the front line workers like the technicians that actually get things done!
Some estimates are about 35k-40k over the next 48 months. This is the only lever that can be pulled right now to control cost.
Cut the unproductive.
About 40% in some orgs.
