I was axed along with most of my team earlier this morning, with all of us being in senior to principal positions. More than half of our team was impacted.
I wasn’t staying up-to-date with the layoff rumors, so this came as quite a shock. Especially considering how many projects were still in the pipeline.
Leadership assured us this wasn’t performance-based, and seeing the amount of great talent that was let go, I believe them.
But what was really odd was how quickly IT blocked our access to internal communications (Slack, email, etc.) after the announcement hit.
I stayed in contact with a few of my co-workers who survived Oracle’s layoffs in the past via text today, and they claimed that last time this happened, those impacted still had access to internal communication tools for a week or so.
It all makes me feel… very disposable. And it’s especially discouraging to see so much great talent, many who’ve been here for years, to just get gutted like this.
It’s heavy. It hurts.
