Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Many senior and principal positions were laid off today (myself included)

I was axed along with most of my team earlier this morning, with all of us being in senior to principal positions. More than half of our team was impacted.

I wasn’t staying up-to-date with the layoff rumors, so this came as quite a shock. Especially considering how many projects were still in the pipeline.

Leadership assured us this wasn’t performance-based, and seeing the amount of great talent that was let go, I believe them.

But what was really odd was how quickly IT blocked our access to internal communications (Slack, email, etc.) after the announcement hit.

I stayed in contact with a few of my co-workers who survived Oracle’s layoffs in the past via text today, and they claimed that last time this happened, those impacted still had access to internal communication tools for a week or so.

It all makes me feel… very disposable. And it’s especially discouraging to see so much great talent, many who’ve been here for years, to just get gutted like this.

It’s heavy. It hurts.

@a4
Thanks for sharing and really hope you can jump with your colleagues in a new success story.
In Emea, we differentiate OCI in « OCI, infrastructure and AI » and database platform. Which one or both are impacted?

Sorry for your loss. As we know, Layoffs are all about market share. Showing that Corp is progressive, replacing people with technology is no fault of your own. There will be jobs in other places than Big Corps. Tough to go through this but somehow just know there are better jobs out there. Where people are honest & respectful. Everything is changing fast. Private investigation is a huge market for Big Corps especially with DOGE. Transparency is the new norm. Your experience could be helpful. Big Corps will be forced to investigate internally. The new standards will be enforced. Especially Corps with Govt contracts.
Oracle compliance is necessary. Statute of limitations has been rescinded for money laundering Those individuals that have excessive extravagant expensive business expenses that are found to personal will be exposed. Cameras facial recognition will checked instantly. Materiality thresholds for Big Corps billions in the past that protected fraud was basically all about saving audit billable hours. AI forensics instant reporting transparency reveals all. No history limits. There will also be available mgmt jobs.

Plu one, Same here, Mar 7th, before the Earnings Results, useless bootlicker manager staying in his chair for 15 years, doing nothing, called me at 9:30, and I am out without any access by 10, waiting for any paperwork, so I can return the damn laptop, so unorganized management

“Let go with a lot more than that!”

How long were you there for? Were you impacted by this round of layoffs/RIFs ans well? And if you don’t mind me asking, how much did you receive in your severance package?

Hey everyone, in regards to your severance package inquiries, I received 2 months of severance pay. I didn’t have any RSUs at the time.

I’m expected to receive more details in the coming weeks.

I hope you had a good relationship with your manager because he (or she or they) will be getting your emails and depending on your position, MAY have access to your inbox for a month.
They won't be able to send emails as you, but will get emails directed to you and can respond as themselves.
The majority of employees seem to be unaware of this simple fact.

To all impacted, I’m very sorry and know you will find something better. Out of curiosity, are you able to share what the package offer contained? (US based). Thanks

The worst mistake and experience I ever had working at oracle? It was working at oracle. Before I knew it my career was worthless and I had zero skills. I listened to a bunch of incompetent mgmt a$$ kissers who were scared to go out and really earn a living. The worst thing that ever happened to my career was my time at oracle.

"Most if not all of the people who were let go at that time caught on with a bunch of good companies and their careers turned out a lot better than mine and anyone that stayed at Oracle. I can't speak for all of Oracle, but the unit I was in, horrible."

So very true!

Remember when my company was a acquired and a lot of people were let go. My stooge manager was like, "be thankfulI kept all you guys". I stayed there about 14 years after that and regretted it every day. Got used to easy money. Skilles became stale. People that I thought were "leaders, role models"; pure waste. Most if not all of the people who were let go at that time caught on with a bunch of good companies and their careers turned out a lot better than mine and anyone that stayed at Oracle. I can't speak for all of Oracle, but the unit I was in, horrible. The mgmt were atrocious. The type of people who will stab you in the back any chance they got.

I was apart of the 10k, back November 2024. Was told could look internally ahead of layoff date, but was immediately shut out during my notification. Few weeks later my old manager phoned me to check my employment status and I found out she was laid off too, but her husband still employed and other senior leaders were laid off too.

Folks sorry to hear about the layoff's. I went through one at Oracle in 2000 and was done in same manner after .com bust. The funny part is they interviewed me for same position in same group 6 months later. I was pi---d so went for in person interview and cussed the he-l out at HR. Now being 25 years older I realize that was stupid on my part. Anyway I am confident you all will come out better at the end with this experience and will reflect on it few years down the road like I am doing today. I learned some good lessons through that layoff which will stay with me for life.

That grand total will not be known until June 15th.
Why so? What’s on June 15th?

Nothing special about the date, but there will be significant reductions takes at the start of the new Fiscal, June 1st. It will take a couple of weeks after for notifications!

Thanks a lot for sharing.

I was also affected by the layoffs, and I hate the secrecy and how everyone is locked out of their PC remotely. But do not let this get you down - Just get your CV ready and start applying!

This all appears to be an effort to reduce payroll so that the financial results appear better for the earnings call on March 10, 2025 and the end of the financial year Q4.

Remember Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. where it was ruled that companies should operate "in the interests of shareholders, rather than in a manner for the benefit of his employees or customers." That person is 50% Larry.

So maybe we should all be grateful for being laid off, but my condolences to everyone who needed this job.

I can attest that the OCI and IT folks I know who were affected were all very high functioning, great to work with, and super valuable to the org. And they were in the middle of active, prioritized projects. So I'm not sure where that leaves the things we were partnering with them on.

Such a bummer. It doesn't make sense. I wish only the best for everyone impacted.

This was the rough timeline for lockouts:
15 Minute call scheduled for the actual RIF, informed during call that accounts will be shut off following the call

  • Slack signed out within 15 minutes
  • Outlook "access denied" within 1 hour
  • unable to view accounts on desktop
  • PC is sent a shut down command (approx. 1.5 hours)
  • PC used bootlocker to lock out user

Me and half my team were cut - everyone doing one specific job function and only that one. Except my only principle IC, who per the definition I was given should have been spared, but wasn't. Reading your post gives that more context. I also found the immediate lock out of all resources disorienting and can confirm it is not how things went in the past.

That is why I never kept more than one box of personal stuff at my desk. Even less over the years. Some would mock me...no pictures...etc. Yep. NEVER kept any personal files on my work computer.

It is gut wrenching to have it happen. I wish those affected the best of luck and hope you land soon.

Sad to hear and understand your situation. Same happened to me some years back. All positions would go to cheap labor elsewhere as always with ORCL.

I assure you you would be able to find a better job. Do not get discouraged due to inhuman people who treat good talent like machines.

Wish you good luck

As another victim of the rif- I'm sorry this happened to us bub. I also appreciate how you put it, it's helping me self rationalize as well. I didn't even get the opportunity to say goodbye to the people I worked with for several years. Pathetic behavior.
