Has anyone heard that they may offer an option for people to leave for a severance package, as opposed to just being laid off? I wonder how much severance they really offer…either way.

The buyout is garbage. What they are offering is a slap in the face. They presented this buyout like it’s the best thing ever and what an opportunity this is for the 30,000 employees that are eligible for the buyout. The kicker is you have to make a decision by March 3rd @5:00 and your submission will be reviewed and they will determine if you qualify for the buyout. What happens to the ones that put in the submission for the buyout and UHC denies your submission. Do they get to keep their job or are they let go with nothing, with the submission do they loose the ability to collect unemployment because they applied for the buyout. Most of the people that they have given this buyout option won’t be ale to afford COBRA (one of the wonderful benefits with the buyout) There’s so much ugliness behind this buyout.
If you take the package, Unemployment eligibility would depend on the state you live in.
Don’t take it. It will look like you resigned and at least in my state you cannot collect if you resign
Do we take the offer or wait and see… I don’t wanna be sc--wed in the end and get laid off. Are we still able to collect unemployment. Really hated that the meeting we couldn’t talk or ask anything.
Yep . Buyout announced for basically all of BenOPS. The "Generous" is just an extra 2 weeks. You have until basically the end of the first week of March to decide.
What area were you from that had the call already?
Sharepoint site with resignation information if vague. Script read. Everyone on mute. Comment section off. No option to ask questions just have to attend a meeting. Everyone left with lots of questions and anxiety. They haven’t provided detail on the WHY
I was on the call today. If you take the voluntary resignation, you get a lump sum severance package based on salary grade and seniority. Last day at the company would be 5/1. You are unable to apply at any UHG companies for a full year.
I just had this meeting it’s true. They read a script and turned off chat and muted all people.
They have a share point with all the information. The buyout is above a standard layoff payment.
They did not mention a number of people they were looking to leave.
Can anyone tell me the cons of taking a buyout? Can you still reapply internally to other jobs? Would you keep your same GL/salary if rehired?
Can confirm that this leak was correct.
Can people come back and comment with what they get told? Either lay off or buy out and what the offers are?
I get that sources wouldn’t be revealed but I’d think something like this would be highly confidential. I mean I could get on here and say that they are giving us a bonus and was told that from a reliable source. Like you said we will find out tomorrow
I guess we will find out tomorrow. Sources can’t be revealed. Why would anyone want to get their source into trouble for giving us a heads up.
Praying that it is Optum, too. With all of the offshoring that needs to happen, it makes sense that it would. Where do I sign Up??? Ready to go.
Ok where did this info come from?? How true is the info?
I guess you didn’t read the thread. This is a choice. Hence voluntary layoff. Severance
Is everyone just jumping to conclusions or does anyone have facts….truth…known source? 30k is a lot and if they are gonna let you go why have a huge meeting about it. Like hey…30k must go…stay tuned to see if you get the pink ticket! That would be horrible.
I bet none of this is on Optum side they just hap a big round of chopping.
Offered to 30k people or looking to cut 30k people?
So what if not enough people volunteer to leave?
"30k can’t confirm that number.
The rest, for Baker’s org, yes."
what you mean by The Rest, yes?
30k can’t confirm that number.
The rest, for Baker’s org, yes.
Bring it on. How reliable is this information? We hadn’t heard anything in my area. Can someone confirm???
30,000? That number seems way over inflated. Like someone else said, let's not be dramatic
That is odd offer a buyout after a layoff. Usually the other way around you do the buyout first and then if not enough take it the layoff round severance not as good. UHG is cheap so why incut the expense if you dont have to. Optum has never offered a buyout since rebranding. Last buyout were under Ingenix brand more than 15 years ago. Sounds like wishful thinking rumor
Just got a last minute “touchbase” meeting invite from manager for tomorrow/Friday afternoon, on a day when my manager is supposed to be on PTO also…
What is the source of this? Now I’m in a panic
Will it just be the standard policy severance package for the buyout or something different?
Provider Services is part of it. Under Mike Baker
I have nothing for Monday. Any ideas on what’s the subject line of the email?
30,000 is the target goal of # accepting the buyout across UHC & Optum or 30,000 US employees will be offered the buyout?
Please let this be true...
30,000 Voluntary layoff, which means if you take severance you forfeit unemployment benefits
Yes, it’s confirmed. I’m just glad they are letting them have a choice instead of the usual RIF. It will be interesting to see how many take it and then if that number of employees leaving don’t meet the “goal” what happens next.
Just for a pop up meeting for Monday with a vauge “announcement” anyone else have any idea?
Whoever said Monday, what is your source? 30,000 is ALOT of people. Again, what is the source? We want to be informed not dramatic
Not sure about Optum but definitely UHG
Just UHG or Optum too?
Over 30,000 employees
