Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

For Everyone Laid Off in 2025

I feel your pain. I had almost 10 years. Shield Awards, manager commendations, got along with my coworkers.

Nows the time to use those connections for your next job/move. If you're staying in banking/tech: God Speed, I'm done, it's a Sh*tshow right now.

I'll tell you the reality now so you don't think it's just you: It took 60 job applications for me to finally get an offer. 3 Months unemployed. It su-ked. But keep your head up.

  • Update your Resume
  • Focus on your wellbeing/have a schedule
  • Learn/brush up on a Skill (i.e. Google Analytics etc)

This one is controversial but : Use AI for cover letters, make it sound "human". If jobs can use AI to deny you in 1 second after you put in 1-2 hours of work on an application, why can't you use it? Be smart about it.

I ended up in a resource management role.

Each company / industry that owns/distributes resources (water, gas, fuel, etc), anything to keep life going, look into those.

Better job security than banking, no customers who think they're Gods because they have $1,200 in their accounts, I'm lucky and have no drama with my coworkers (thus far). No 6am daily meetings to waste 1 hour of time going over what every single person Is going over and then going past the meeting end time by 30-40 minutes 😂.

If you don't mind screen staring and critically thinking for at least 4 hours a day, it's not a hard job. Pays well. Literally , on indeed type "resource management" thank me later when the lightbulb of "oh, there are other careers outside banking that are possible" !

Of course :

Part of the October Layoffs.

Did Mortgages for almost all of those 10 years, survived the chaos of COVID and saw the writing on the wall when PPP was in full swing. Switched to Card/payment solutions.

It will sound like I'm tooting my own ho-n, but the work was 90% less stressful for almost double the pay. It was not stressful, managers didn't like people smarter than them. Critical thinking was not rewarded. I wish I could give specific examples but that would Out Me hard.

If you worked Branch side and ever had to call for mortgage help, there's a very good chance I helped you/you spoke to me. I wish I could provide examples/share stories but I'm 99% sure USB has folks reading these (Which if there are any, don't think you're "Different" and "safe" no matter what your manager tells you).
