Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The important things

Glad to see MW was so busy changing the report wording to Gulf of America to appease his government overlords instead of actually focusing on the cr-ppy earnings themselves. Who cares about refining taking the first loss in four years when you can virtue signal your loyalty to an oligarchy instead.

Having just listened to the earnings call I find myself struggling to find words...help me out here...what's the word for a person who debases themselves in exchange for money?

What I wouldn’t give to know what MW truly thinks of DJT. Undoubtedly they have met and have had some interesting conversations.

MW would don an SS uniform if Trump demanded it. Just like the President of Mercedes did for Hi---r back in '32. Profits first. He-l, MW would probably ask if we could use the 30,000 first-round members of American's Guantanamo Bay Concentration Camp, if it meant cheaper layer.

@ab+1 Didn't he promise, based on his never before deal making ability and respect around the globe, that the Ukraine war would be over on day 1? Guess you were lied to. Didn't he say that grocery prices, eggs specifically, would come down day 1? Guess you were lied to. Didn't he promise to solve the opi--d crisis on day 1? Guess you were lied to. Didn't he promise to overturn Biden's electric vehicle mandate? Guess what - there never was one and you were lied to. Didn't he promise to restore the US energy independence on day 1? Guess what we were already exporting oil and, at $70 a barrel, there is not much incentive to drill baby drill (see CVX share buyback instead of funding exploration). Guess you were lied to.

On downstream, refining margins were down globally, weak jet fuel demand made downstream returns worse. There was also a significant hit from impairments. U.S. fuel sales fell 3% year-over-year.

Upstream returns were big. Exploration and production profits increased to $4.3 billion for 2024 vs $1.59 billion in 2023 when charges are included.

@a7, no, I am not American.

And your point about the name change being a mechanism to bypass the drilling bans with congressional approval isn’t well though through: the Memorandum on the Withdrawal specifically references a map showing the areas the Memorandum covers, irrespective of name. And if changing a name invalidates prior laws, and prior laws, acts and orders can be so easily overturned, then there would be a lot of bigger things impacted than the Withdrawal - like the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006.

I mean it is the official name. If you worried more about doing your job, rather than complaining about the name of a body of water we might have had a better year.

Good thing there’s a reorg! GOMBU to GOABU will be easy peasy! That’ll help with the long term vision of the company.
