Can managers track the actual hours of the day I’m in office, or just the total amount of time? If I worked 2pm - 9pm one day, would the reporting show me as signed in office for 7 hours, or specifically from 2-9pm?

@m4+1jjpsf3ap,
There is no state law that mandates a maximum 4-hour work limit for exempt employees.
"an exempt worker cannot be mandated to work more than 4 hours"
This statement is false. An exempt worker can be required to work any number of hours by their employer as they are not entitled to overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) due to their "exempt" status, meaning their salary is based on their position and not the number of hours worked.
- badges AND network attachments are tracked.
- standard reporting doesn't show hours, it's either you were in-office or not (PTO counts as in office)
- if there is reason to suspect someone is gaming ("coffee badging") the detailed data can be pulled upon request.
- four hours is popping up in discussions as the "requirement" because in at least some states - an exempt worker cannot be mandated to work more than 4 hours (since they are not hourly workers). There's nothing in the law about "where" the work must take place, but WF's policy is saying - to count as work you must be in the office 3x per week... but cannot mandate anything more than 4 hours for someone who is exempt.
The only tracking that has been communicated to us is the 4 hour rule. In for less than 4 hours and it doesn't count as a day in the office. In for more than 4 hours and it does count as a day in the office. I had a guy who would only come in for 4 hours not realizing that it was monitored systematically. He got lazy some days and left before the 4 hours. He showed up on reports as not being in the office enough. Those reports showed all of my employees and their office attendance day by day. He was in Charlotte where they badge in/out.
If you end up on the naughty list the manager gets, they (Human Resources)100% can and have gone back to look how many hours in the office. The manager cannot see the hours. Many are on double secret probation. No firing that I know of.
Charlie here we are not tracking hours get back to work
Fake News. There are several sites there is no badge out option.
It's a mixed bag. They 100% do track it but it's not part of current reporting shown to managers.
pre covid, you could there was a system where you could see your badge swipes. Building, date and time of swipe. Why would anyone think they can’t still do that
Manager of managers here. The system can track the hours "if" the leadership wants to. As far as I know, most LOBs are not tracking...yet, but things could change in the future. Jr. managers are not totally in the loop on this.
To the managers here, does the scan show the time you were scanned?
RTO has been dragging on for over 3 years now, what an absolute joke. If you were in office prior to Covid, go back. If you were remote prior to Covid, stay remote. How hard does this have to be????? smh
given not all building have badge ijt I'm surprised they haven't given us an application for clocking in when we arrive at the office and clocking out when we leave. seems pretty simple and reliable.
OFFS, if you worked as hard at your job as you do at avoiding coming in to work, you would be pretty successful.
just saying.
sigh...........
Managers can track your hours in the office. Minimum 6 hours a day. If you stayed in office last than 6 hours they can discipline you.
depends on the building not all have the time stamp only the in and out, i have been showed the report in my group and many days i stayed 2 hours show as in office
Manager here. It is not tracked. Those saying it is are lying.
Most managers done care.
Yes, they have the capability to track how long you were in the office based on the time you swiped the card (in and out) and the duration you were logged on via office network. Many LOBs have not started tracking hours yet but some LOBs have started tracking. Ask your manager, he can tell you.
Dir. from CIB here, not tracking hours just badge swipes. Suspect it’s different in other business groups.
You need to swipe once per day and a minimum of 3 days per week of those swipes. That is how my LOB does it.
Yes. I’m tracking hours in office by the swipe time and I also get a report with when you’re out of compliance. So yes to tracking hours in office
OP here, thanks to those who responded. I’m coming off 3 months of remote work (got an exception for medical stuff). I have to work some wonky hours here & there, and have a new manager who I just don’t have trust in yet to ask.
They officially cannot track hours yet only swipes.
If you have no one to collaborate, don't stay. There is no point.
Some LOBs have communicated they care. COO has reporting and people are being contacted if they have been in less than 8 hrs.
Who cares? No one. Just get your swipes in.
If you’re found to be in the office less than 8 hours, you get placed on double secret probation.
Your a-s better be working 24/7. Get off here. They're watching.
Yes, they can track what hours you are in the office. At this point no one cares. Just get your hours in three or more days a week.
