Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I can’t wait to see fantastic reorg ideas

I’m sure that, in the long run, not much will change—except that many of us will end up jobless. C-suite don’t really have a clue about what they want to achieve beyond cutting costs. When cost-cutting becomes the sole focus, the company has no future. We’ll end up spending excessive time and resources on reorganization. Imagine if that energy were directed toward actual development and long-term growth.

Regarding graduates: Why would any engineering graduates want to come to Chevron when they can go anywhere else and be part of an innovative team. In my anecdotal experience, this place is where innovation and ideas come to die. Anyone with a fresh view on things is silenced. I’ve seen projects that are literally taking things a decade backwards and when I’ve pointed it out I get ignored or outright met with hostility. Every graduate knows people in other companies and industries…why come here when everywhere else is better for a new grad?

I am interested in seeing the spin on the staffing reduction and how Chevron PGPA will write the news article. I know the financial news loves layoffs because it results in lower operating costs and drives the stock price up in the short term. BP has released a news article about their layoffs but I do not think Chevron will announce staff reductions and include the rehiring of staff in India. LC from IT announced in one of the staff meetings in the Q4 how Chevron was going to hire "thousands of staff" in India, Manila, and Buenos Aires but somehow I do not believe this will be announced in the USA financial news. Chevron ELT has stated they are having trouble hiring new college graduates and once the news of foreign hiring gets disclosed the new college grads will not be interested in joining Chevron. Maybe new college grads from India will return to "the Engine".
