Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do Surplus notifications always happen at the beggining or middle of a month?

Is it always right around the 1st or 15th?

“People just can't part with their cell phones for obvious reasons. “

This statement is correct, however what you fail to mention is that :

  1. T is a premium priced product in a commodity environment.
  2. T billing is atrocious.
  3. Customer service is simply awful.

To the contrary
MVNO’s are stealing post paid users by the minute…yeah they ride the big 3 networks but don’t need sales and service to support.
Competitors are 18 months ahead of technology deployment and spectrum .
Direct resources while be whittled down to single digit percentages within 5 years.

One thing for certain, Big Tech has already laid off 60,000 employees this year due to the slow down in the economy and are expecting more next year. AT&T as well as the other 2 mobility companies are soon to follow, but not quite as drastic I would presume due to the nature of the service. People just can't part with their cell phones for obvious reasons. They might shop for a cheaper, lower cost provider, but will definitely keep their service intact!

For Bargained (contract) it’s announced on the 15th of the first month with details at the start of every quarter. It’s nice to have a signed contract with a known process, doesn’t take away the concern about surplus but at least it’s not changeable as long as the contract is in-effect.

Core bargained also has severance based on years of service and off payroll much longer than what management now has due to latest policy changes. That only happens if bargained employee is unable to find another position then it’s into the job bank based on years service.

Going back to the pre-Union days of work rules for non bargained. They have less benefits of all types, more hours expected to work with same or less pay due to erosion of wage increases and not keeping up with inflation. Thanks uncle Joe! Err Stanky!

Unions aren’t perfect but at least every worker in the US enjoys a lot of benefits due to their past sacrifices. 8-10 hour work days with 1.5 or 2x beyond 40 hrs, PTO including holidays, insurances, pensions, severances, etc… The Corporate elites would like to go back to the sweatshop days without any benefits, they are quickly eroding employee friendly work place rules and benefits.

2019, phone call at 7:30am January 15th. Informed last day was 03/15/19. 60 days notice back then. Then my peers who were suppose to be my friends started getting pi---d off at me because I stopped handling angry customers and all the daily BS.
Because karma is good people some of them got a taste of what I went through metals 6 months later I think.

Nobody here knows. There are so many frequent and small scale layoffs at T it is not possible for anyone but HR to know for certain. I have read multiple time that for union folks it is predictable as per their contract.

Sorry to hear about the surplus for the involuntary people. Great for those who are ready to retire or leave.

If you are able, Which group(s) and how many are going to be surplussed? Has each individual been notified yet?
