Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Announced 500 layoffs in ATS (Technology services) today

Names will be announced by Jan 15 and will be off of payroll by Jan 16, 2023.

Asked to let the managers know about the retirement by the end of this week or else someone from the team will be forced to leave.

Any thoughts?

"I’m sure Elon will be looking for qualified individuals over at Twitter if you do happen to get impacted by this surplus in Legg’s organization."

HR professionals at Twitter would laugh if seeing a resume from someone working in a Technology Services department at AT&T.

If they cut just 5%, that’s 1,350! That’s a pretty significant reduction and don’t see it happening. Best estimate I would say is at risk is around 600-750, tops!

There are technician positions open in the southwest if you’re willing to relocate. There’s definitely a shortage of technicians.

Unfortunately, at least in the Southwest, management employees are prohibited from transferring into craft, even to save their job. This applies to craft that went into management, they cannot return to their craft job even if there is an opening. This is more of AT&T love for you.

Only 500? That seems like a good start. Many orgs in ATS can never be reached!

This is somewhat old news -- Paul Fox hosted a meeting about a week or so ago and stated the same. He is in the Legg tower.

regarding this comment made below -- The “announcement” is being made now to comply with 60 day WARNing period...

I am not sure this is true. I think the employer has to provide written notice. Also, not sure if it is all states, but you can go to their respective department of labor sites and view notices submitted as part of WARN. for example - https://www.twc.texas.gov/businesses/worker-adjustment-and-retraining-notification-warn-notices

Heard the same thing today. Message was delivered in a very haphazard manner with few details. Director that I work for didn't seem to know what was going on. You would think that they would have a coherent message, but no. Also, supposed to tell your manager if you think you might retire and then do it by Friday. So lame.

The OP posted a mistake about the off payroll date, the rest is true. Individuals will be notified mid January, off payroll 1/31. My group in ATS was notified last week, other groups I know were told today. Very hap hazard the way it’s being communicated from leadership in Legg org. But it’s definitely true.

No wonder the company is going to bell in a basket, can’t even get a simple message right. ATS (att tech svc) announced there will be layoffs in January. The impacted employees will be notified mid-January and off payroll 1/31/23. Two weeks notice, this is standard practice now people. The “announcement” is being made now to comply with 60 day WARNing period. Jan 31 is 64 days from now. Not sure why Legg didn’t make the announcement himself, the task is going to directors and in some cases ADs, so needless to say everyone may be hearing slightly different info. The HR talking points say to give the layoff number of 500, but it could be a few more or less depending on if their estimates on folks retiring by 12/31 is accurate.

I love when these ID-10-T people post things like this trying to get a rise out of people. Obvi the OP is clueless on how AT&T layoffs people (I'm a retired SWBT/SBC/AT&T employee with 32 years there).

Doesn’t matter what organizational acronym you use in T, everyone will be impacted over the next 90 days with re-orgs and surplus announcements. Don’t think that because you hear nothing, you are safe. Most employees aren’t privy to leadership breach of non disclosure agreements which forbid discussion around surplus details and dates at the highest management levels…..some just can’t keep their mouths shut to their buddies. Plan for what and where you will go next. Choose to stay and keep your eyes open or plan a controlled exit to another company. This company will need to change drastically before it gets better, but it might just do so some day.

14 days from Jan 15 would be the standard surplus timeline.

I know, but that’s what I heard from leadership.
