Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It is beyond comprehension

I'm trying to understand the logic of a company that spends a lot of money to hire employees, train them, only to fire them not long after. This does not happen only here, but it is very common at ATT. Why? What is the logic behind it?
Not only is it a big waste of money, but in my opinion it is a very bad strategy with long-term consequences.

Simple. It gives us a trained labor pool that's available when we need it. It also helps us keep salary lower because we can always outsource work to contractors that we've already paid to train.

1st level uses layoff as incentive to hunt senior employees. They would rather fire an old guy than layoff a young one. that’s the theory, the problem is the old guy is good at surviving the hunt.

Easy answer....
Those in charge need to justify their jobs. What else would they do if they didn't train, fire, train again?

They hire you and then spend the rest of the time trying to get rid of you.

maybe the persons fired broke the rules or were not a good fit for the team.

bring back standards and stop hiring people with tattoos. I see somebody with tattoos and I will not let them in my house. I will call for them to send somebody else.

Depends what side of T you are referring to. Negative narcissistic big boss truck driving work well with outside forces, but if you are talking about an office team oriented environment then we need leaders that will help their subordinates get promoted.

They have no strategy, decisions are made on a whim not by logical planning. Been that way for years.
