What’s the point of flex cubes when the buildings are empty?

I have to lug all my stuff in and out of the office and every time I come in I have to walk around finding a cube each morning that isn’t missing equipment and isn’t dirty as he-l. Half the cubes on my floor have no keyboard/mouse/phone/headset, so people move these around and a lot the monitors don’t even work.

So we all commute in for an hour and then spend 10-20 minutes setting up monitors and getting equipment just to sit on online meetings all day.

And of course the cubes in my buildings have low walls so even with 4 other people on the floor I can hear everything they’re saying. Needless to say everyone is pretty annoyed with being one of the unlucky ones forced into office. There is no friendly break room banter. Everyone just keeps their heads down, logs the hours needed, and heads straight home…

There's a concept: Working from Home is "Quiet Working".

The way it should be.

Your location should have drawers you can lock stuff in and take the key.
I stopped going in because

I was the only one in my group that was assigned to that office,
I refused to work at a filthy desk any more. Local crews did ok cleaning but not the actual desk.

It was funny. I was on a call where they kept encouraging the phone to be muted while not talking, since there was a ton of background noise. The background noise was coming from one of the main people talking, who happened to be in the office. One of those things where you can clearly hear the conversation from someone in the background. That's far more distracting than the quiet people working in their home offices.

Did you submit a help desk ticket to get the stolen technology replaced? It's just easier to whine about it here.

it's a money saving strategy. Has nothing to do with collaboration, or any of the other silly names.

CPG is the most worthless group in the company. This kind of nonsense is their idea. They have no concept of the idea that thousands of employees work in groups in which "business need to know" and opsec is essential. A 4" tall partition and ample opportunities to spy on other people's screen and listen in to their phone conversations is a massive risk. Literally every time my phone rings I have to tell them to hold on while I walk to a more secure area to talk to them. Super efficient. No one in my building should see my screen or hear what I'm talking about, and these poorly designed work areas are designed to maximize that vulnerability. It's mo--nic.

I don't know why people sit in the cubes. So few people are in most buildings that each person could use a mother's room, flex office, focus room, conference room, huddle room, or whatever these other ridiculous spaces are called, as a private office. Who's going to stop you? The hall monitor? No such thing.

What a horrible existence. Flex cubes are filthy. The person who came up with this idea is part of the globalized, inclusive set who celebrate diversity. Now we have to declare ourselves with an acceptable pronoun.
