Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What are the unwritten rules?

Post unwritten rules and shady practices that Wells Fargo does. I'll start:

  • Priority of D&E external, or any external candidates, for hire over internal hires.
  • Priority of D&E hires/promotion over a better qualified hire.
  • Hire any D&E external candidate if they are "remotely qualified"
  • Get rid of employees that have been here >10 years.
  • RTO requirements not enforced uniformly.
  • If you take FMLA, you lose any chance of promotion.
  • If you take maternity leave, you lose any chance of promotion.

Please add to this list!

@caj. The problem is the new management team don’t know enough about what you do to give you a kudos for a job well done so they give done at all.

There's a quote from slain civil rights leader Dr Rodney King that is applicable in the US that seems to have been forgotten: "Can we all just get along?".

@1rwk - in the old days we called these people snitches. They have NEVER been embraced and are popular in communist countries and traitors.
In the WWII work camps snitches thought it would save them - never true.
Snitches rarely benefit, both the people they snitch to and the people they snitch on see their character.

Why can't we JUST focus on doing the job we have agreed to do? I do not need or want Social Engineering. I am a professional adult - stop the WOKE BS!

The bell curve you describe is common in other companies, and has been around for 20+ years. Thank GE’s Jack Welch for making it popular. It helped him fire the bottom 10% of performers. As long as you’re judged by perceived performance and not judged on a protected status companies can continue this. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make it illegal.

Here's a few more:

  • Being judged on subjective criteria (being "liked") vs actual performance & achievement of goals.
  • Good work is unappreciated. Who gets appreciated? The whiny complainer who back stabs their co-workers.

Oh really? Could’ve fooled me. You’re pretty much the textbook definition of a h o m o phobe.

ONE instance of a photo of two men kissing and our worlds collapse? How fragile are we?!

@lmj has spent multiple days whining about a picture they saw for a few seconds.

The issue is obviously with them, not the picture or the act it was depicting.

@fkb Sorry to burst your bubble. Unfortunately, I’m too old to get h o r n y after seeing any pics. Thank God I at least get nauseous after seeing two guys kissing. It must mean I’m still alive And too old to have been corrupted by left wing nut progressive ideology.
I’m just surprised I lived long enough to read about the lady in the UK marrying her cat. I always thought that was just a running joke, now a reality. They should’ve never shut down Barnum and Bailey.

Even worse, I opened up a Wells Fargo email in my work email box And it showed a guy kissing another guy. This was a sanctioned Wells Fargo internal email. Why in the H E L L does Wells Fargo have to send me pictures of anybody doing anything? I’m a mature adult and I can read text. I don’t need to be subjected to suggestive pics. I don’t need pictures to help explain anything to me. No thanks for the forced indoctrination, WF.

I try to turn off the media at home but at work when I open a web browser I am forced to have teamworks as the landing page. What is teamworks comprised of? Yes…Forced Indoctrination and DEI initiatives.

OMG! Look at all of us. We’re essentially all the same. Just people trying to live our lives and make the best of the worst situations. The media, the government, and this company are all trying to indoctrinate us, and make us more divisive.
What would happen if we just turned off television. Turned off the news. Filtered out any divisive language? I think we would be better off. Thoughts?
I’m not trying to be funny, but what would happen if we were attacked by aliens from a different planet right now? My best guess is we would forget about race/culture and all unite to save our world.
It’s a fact, that we gravitate to other people we feel comfortable with. It’s not really about race/culture, but personal preference. Does it make me a bad person just because I want to hang out with specific individuals with a common lifestyle as mine? People have their golf buddies. People have their bar buddies. People have their church buddies. People have their service club buddies. People have the book club buddies.
We can’t be faulted for how we were raised.

Yes, the fmla component is real. You would only get a meets and probably lower end of the bonus and salary pool vs peers. Interviews cannot happen without diversity people on the interview panel, etc.

The bell curve is very real and managers sit in a room like a fantasy football draft grading and ranking everyone as they were told to do. This can’t be legal - it’s not high school.

Do not ask “why” when presented with a reasonably questionable ask. Just put your head down and do it.

If you ask “why” you most certainly will not be given a straight answer (often because the person asking doesn’t even know why, or worse sometimes they don’t want you to know) and are likely to be viewed as “not a team player”.

Intellectual curiosity is not rewarded.

They did away with being able to send an e-card to a team member. Now only managers can do that. It's a recent change.

Wow, this blew up. I'm the OP. I am also non-white. The purpose of this thread was to identify publically the "unwritten" things that this company does. But thank you for trying to detail it and make it a race/political/whatever issue.

@qwz I was on the winningest end of the bell curve last year. I wouldn't mind that getting applied to me again.

LMAO the DEI responses. The responses are what you would expect from "remotely qualified people". Read the thread, its not all DEI. I can't wait until you get recalibrated or the bell curve applies to you.

I would believe their goal for diversity if they required India and the Philippine offices to be equally as diverse as all locations. However, I’m sure those offices do not have any kind of diversity requirements. Not disrespect to anyone in those offices, but it should apply equally everywhere.

Give DE&I a break! So sick of folks fear of losing their privilege. Do you whine as loudly when it comes to the equivalent of white-collar welfare: HR hires you because you're more "relatable", or Daddy/frat connections get you your job despite being an average performer at best, or you're grandfathered into the university based on family legacy, etc, etc. Do you complain about the boys at the helm who commit what amounts to white collar crime? Stop bi@#hing about my nickels and dimes. Those are the folks who are really stealing your opportunity! Or does your version of DE&I acceptance only extend as far as lip/bu-t injections, deep tanning during summer months. Sick of the closeted envy and countless microaggressions. Want to be me, but don't want to be me.

I am white and grew up in public housing. I took my bu-t to college when I was headed toward jail or the military. I did it on my own. Nobody handed it to me. I have student loans and do not qualify for a bailout. Now, I am non DEI individual and cannot find another job inside the bank. I have been wronged and I will ensure this company stays a meritocracy. I am tired of the politics. The bank wants to keep the woke congressional committees of our butts. I really do not give a darn where you are from ad li g as you are friendly and can do the job. I have seen too many low performers leave WF get great jobs for their so called diversity. Well that company now has a diverse group of low performers.

Yes, the discrimination against internal hires is rampant and a total load of BS. Every single time and exec says something about wanting to retain people or development opportunities or room for growth, it's a pack of lies. If you advance it's in spite of their efforts in those areas, no because of them.

Cronyism is a bigger problem IMO. Our group has been infilitrated by ex BofA folks. We just went through a reorg and all the promotions went to the BofA crowd, bypassing any real semblence to make things better.

I’m multi racial, but never identified as multi racial. I’m a mix of at least three races, but identify as one. Is the company really incentivizing me to pick the race with the most added value to succeed here? Am I encouraged to game the system?
If this company starts becoming dog friendly, should I start barking???
All joking aside, I just want to be all I can be, not game the system by spending hours at the tanning salon… lol

If the company is forced to hire non-white, what’s that say about being non-white? Think about. Why do we have to have diversity? Why do we have to have equity? Why do we have to be inclusive?
Think about it.
Are we being governed or dictated to?
I used to think of people of other races/cultures as people? Now that DE&I is being forced upon me, I subconsciously avoid other races/cultures in America, only. It’s not that I dislike them, but what are they now thinking about me??? This country sure knows how to promote division, even if division isn’t present. I feel that I have to watch my back for nothing more than the color of my skin, now.
That being said, if DE&I is the new trend, then I’m leaning towards segregation. Segregation is a natural occurrence. It’s also by design. For example, First class, business class and economy class. Beverly Hills 90210 vs Compton.
At the workplace, let’s see how long DE&I lasts when someone starts heating up pickled pigs feet in the break room microwave… Just joking.
Regardless, I always thought being hired on merit worked best.

I’ve actually seen the opposite with fmla crowd and paternity/maternity 16 weeks crowd. I’ve seen leadership promote them because it makes them look compassionate to promote those people.

Even if you think all your staff meet or even exceed their goals, you have to pick 30% of them and find some infractions. Then, either you or your spineless manager will rewrite the narrative and come up with reasons to justify "inconsistently meets."
IF you push back, YOU as a manager will not get a Meets and YOU will therefore get only maybe a third of your bonus and no merit. This company is rigging things nearly as bad as Musk is at Twitter... only Charlie and Co. have thought this through and their intention is to run people off so they don't have to pay severance. AND they are targeting late 40s to early 50s aged employees with tenure because they stand to get almost a year's salary. Prove (and I mean PROVE) me wrong!
