Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

We need to follow twitters lead

If we want rto compliance we need to follow twitters lead. From musk's q&a session the other day:

Now, if somebody’s contribution is so significant that they can overcome the communication difficulties of being remote, then they should absolutely remain at Twitter. But it will be a higher bar. They have to be that much better to overcome the communication issues of being remote. There are plenty of people at Tesla and SpaceX that do work remotely, but it is on an exception basis for exceptional people. And I totally understand if that doesn’t work for some people. That’s the new philosophy at Twitter.

Let me be crystal clear. If people do not return to the office when they are able to return to the office, they cannot remain at the company. End of story.

Basically, if you can show up in an office and you do not show up at the office: resignation accepted. End of story.

I know someone leaving for a remote job because of the policies here.

Multiply that by all the employees who know someone and you see why so many are going.

A lot of talent out the door, not including the folks who actually knew the business they have already laid off.

But WE dont want RTO compliance. I am on one of many teams where people go in once a week. That is perfect. the facility I work in is EMPTY so my guess is that many people just are not coming in at all. And they can't really force it, they are already hemorrhaging associates and have been told they can't backfill positions.

Whoever posted this should be ashamed of their stupidity.
Twitter lays thousands of people off and days later asks some to come back.
This blue checkmark fiasco could bring the entire company down. The companies whose stock tanked have grounds to sue.
Everyone left working at Twitter will be leaving faster than our employees leave WF.

No one should follow Twitter’s lead on anything.

I personally don't care wear people work. I like having the flexibility to WFH when needed but enjoy coming into an office even though my team is spread across the country. End of day, if your employer wants you in office then go, if you don't like it find work elsewhere. companies change policies all the time so while I understand you were hired as remote, they can change the terms of your employment just like you can, ie. you can leave.

Never commented here before, but some of us worked remotely for a reason before the pandemic. To randomly change it without discussion isn't good business.

Also, I have to question the intentions of people that are so fixated on people coming into the office. Specifically, what exactly is it you want to do with people that are in the office? Seems like the ones that are toxic need people to direct their toxic energy towards.

Didn’t the Twitter workers all lose their jobs because they’re lazy?

If you are looking at Twitter and saying “yes I want my company to be in that position” you are missing something. Their CEO is literally voicing company bankruptcy possibilities.

Somehow, teams dispersed across the US have functioned just fine throughout the bank for over a decade.

@npa, you said a mouthful, there. They rant, and complain, but basically they know if they want to keep their job, they better come in.
I agree with the OP. Also, Employees do not get to tell their employer what they want to do. You don't like it, then there are other opportunities elsewhere. No one is forcing you to do anything. Leave and go find remote work.

as much as people complain and threaten to leave, when push comes to shove most will comply.

Are you kidding? Musk appears to be single handed lyk destroying the company in record time. If that’s our goal, then follow his lead.
