I'm surprised anything ever gets done considering the number of incompetent people who are promoted to management positions through nepotism and favoritism instead of merit. I'd contact HR about some blatantly obvious cases but I doubt I'd achieve anything other than making myself a target.

I left in 2019, after a little sn-t nose, that I initially trained, was promoted over me. An AAS, a BS, and an MBA, and I got the the e-mail that someone more qualified than me had been promoted. 20 years, 14 years as an instructor, and replaced by a kid, younger than my own son.
truth and yeah you would make yourself a target
one of the reasons I left - I have had two more promotions since i left than what I had as 18 years at att.
att is so overrated it isn't even funny. att is great in its own mind.
Where is the checkbox for being loudmouthed and drink lotsa beer in my garage?
“ Promotions are all about checking boxes…

Suck up to existing officers - check
Never disagree with the current management strategy flavor of the week - check
You need at least 3”
You left out the important one…. Pronouns…
I always cry nepotism and favoritism whenever someone surpasses me. Say it loud too.
I got mine, now you get yours!
You seem very jellie!

Meh. You'd do the same.
If you hate it so much and have so much talent, why not find another opp?
In HR nepotism and favoritism are rampant. ADs are prime examples. Our AD is as inept as they come. Good people would volunteer for projects, well qualified people, but always would get passed over in favor of the "pets", the ones buddy buddy kissy kissy friends with department leadership who don't have a clue as to what the volunteer projects are about and who can't find their a$$es with both hands and a roadmap.
It's ALWAYs the undeserving ones or incompetent ones who get the choice projects, the best exposure when they don't deserve it, etc. It's always the same people - the leadership pets who get the choice projects, promoted faster, etc. The AT&T way.
you could just marry one of the higher ups relatives and get promoted.
Maybe it's you. Maybe your always getting passed by because you are lazy. Big on talk, little on action.
@faw -- Old Zeke used to office on my floor in San Antonio.
Could always depend on him to be in the mens room f@rting & wiping, P1ssing, and stinking up the place while in a stall on his cell phone.
The guy was G.R.O.S.S. As soon as he wiped, having never stopped talking on his cell phone - I never witnessed him washing his hands on the way out and he'd head straight for the donuts or coffee pot on his way out to his office. I always carried alcohol wipes in case I got caught and had to "shake his hand" because I knew what he shook before my hand. Nasty nasty nasty man. Nasty!
if you cant get along with people you will never get promoted. att doesnt owe a dime.
We need more Fenoglio’s in leadership.
What do you mean. Jennifer Robertson got to where she is on her own....oh I forgot her father in law was an officer Zeke Robertson.
People, ANY and mostly ALL very large corporations in America and I'm sure in other countries as well practice nepotism because they can afford it! When a company has annual revenues of multi-million or multi-billion dollars, it's an easy practice to justify! Stop whining about the small stuff because if we all had a hook within corporate America, we would all take advantage of it if we could!
From your post OP I'll bet I can guess why you aren't getting promoted or advanced.
Whining doesn't pay.
Let's face it, Chicago T based employees are all mobsters. If you are a gangster or wannabe gangster, T is the place for you.
We are listening OP- give us some examples.
Just look at Chicagoland as friends and family are the only ones that win…plus their contractor buddies. It’s a joke on the company that has been going on for well over 30 years.
Yes that goes on everywhere. Not a perfect world but those given the job that are not deserving need to step it up and not throw rocks in their glass house.
Nepotism is pretty clear and easy to prove, and I doubt you have clear examples of it.
Favoritism is something that is unpopular with those out of favor. Which I suspect is a category you might fall into.
The Stink is the worst example of this. Top of the CEO Wall of Shame!
