Rumor mill keeps pointing to a merger. What do you think?

Not going to happen. Both Exxon and Chevron are looking to eat companies with large assets at reasonable cost: Neither is an attractive target for the other. That said both are actively looking for mid-sized targets but prices are just too high right now.
The merger will occur, it is just a question of timing.
I don't know, do you think they will rehire any of us if there is a merger?
@dgju, If there was a merger, you bet it will be rewritten. It will be called the Chevron No-Way.
It will never happen. We’d be better off merging with ConocoPhillips
bump?
That would be a heck of a merger. Exxon (conservative) merging with Chevron (liberal) that would be interesting- The “ Chevron Way” might have be rewritten. Where can I get some popcorn?
Since Chevron exploration has proven that their unable to discover hydrocarbon for several years now, being bought out seems plausible.
Lowly VPs have no say in M&A - normally just CEO, EVPs and BOD make the call.
Since Chevron is incapable of growing organically, it must acquire or be acquired. It is as simple as that or enter a death spiral. Chevron is currently in harvest mode and must pay shareholders a nice dividend to stay invested.
Merger would never happen because too many vp and above would be out of a job.
That EMRON name seems to be catching on eh?
Given it would be a true merger (rather than acquisition called a merger), do you think EoI would be offered equally to both sets of employees?
Apple buys about ten companies per year. They bought an Intel smartphone business to get onto 5G.
@uhj. Apple did not buy anybody to get to that mkt share, so it makes no sense your comment.
Let’s get our merge on!
XOM + CVX would be only 15% of US refining capacity, hardly a monopoly. Apple claims over 50% of the domestic phone market.
Troll alert, don’t engage, just downvote.
Any merger can be approved as long as a few assets are sold off. Downstream could be split somehow but even the combination would not be that huge a part of the US gasoline market.
Not gonna happen. Would never pass regulatory approval. This rumor just keeps getting perpetuated for no good reason.
Not going to happen. Even if the companies intended it such a deal would never pass government regulatory approval to proceed.
