Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

There'll be no talent left soon

We are losing older and most experienced employees to layoffs because they are the highest paid ones. Then we have newer employees who are talented but who realize within a year or two that they can get better pay for less work in an environment that's not nearly as toxic as this place. Finally, we have those in the middle, most of who are still here only because they're hoping for severance so they can walk away with a safety net. Very few are still here because this is their employer of choice.

Nationally published guy here. Just mentioning that to establish that I have at least some degree of competence in my field...

The only reason that I'm still here is because I'm within a year of retirement. If I had ANY sort of career ahead of me I'd already be gone. Like many of my colleagues who have already departed.

Wells has changed in the last handful of years. Given the exact opportunities today that I was blessed with 20 years ago when I was originally hired, I would not seek employment here.

I would not expect fresh A-level people to reach any different conclusion today.

To the powers are be, your long tenure is a disqualifier. They don't want tainted employees around, and in their tiny minds everyone that worked for the company more than 3 years ago is tainted. Doesn't matter if your group had anything to do with any compliance issue, they don't care.

Oh, don't worry. All the new middle managers from JPM and other companies are poaching their buddies from their old companies. Meanwhile, those of us internally that are interested in their positions don't even get an interview.

I'm honestly at the point where I think this company is f**ked.

I just got a rejection for a job I applied for that is the same level and title I've been at for 15 years. And I had the same type of job before I came to wells.

The contractor recruiter said the information I provided says I don't the required experience. The required experience? 5 years in this role. I even have most/all of the desired qualifications. And since the recruiter is a contractor, I can't even email them to ask what's up.

The real talent at the company are keeping their heads low at the moment. Waiting for the dust to settle.Still in servicing mode. Can’t really drive sales due to the asset cap. Can’t really be motivated with pending layoffs hanging over our heads.Besides, holidays are approaching. The company virtually shuts down just before Thanksgiving.

What brilliant programmers? The Wells Fargo application is far behind its competitors. Have you looked at TD Ameritrade think or swim app? Those are the programmers WF needs. Also, look at the WF CRM system they call Client Link. I sometimes cry when I think about the millions of dollars they dumped in that load of derelict code.I think they need to release all the technology teams in WF and start over. Hire programmers who have mastered Ergonomics.

I've been sounding off the brain-drain alarm for 2-3 years. Tons of rainmakers in sales left and brilliant programmers, too. They're cutting into the bone at this point. Sad to watch a slow painful end to a once great organization.

Face it, your one of those with no talent. There's a reason you fear losing your job. WF is working to dump their bottom performers, and you're losing your mind.

H1-B brings nearly unlimited young workers.

It is the same everywhere today. Every corporations fires older American
And it isn't very hard to force older American to share what we know.

You saw it when H1-B immigration was scrutinized, and corporations complained not able to find analysts. But when you looked for jobs, it was easily 65 applicants per job applied.

Why is it always assumed that the older, more experienced employees make a bunch?? It’s not true in a lot of cases.

“Cross sell champions” 🤮

I remember the company demonized those cross sell champions. The days when it was good to ensure the clients had as many company products as they needed. The asset cap and the fake account scandal has taken the concept of selling off the table. It’s now all about DEI and servicing the remaining clients we have left in the bank.
Sales people need to sell, hence, why we’re losing our top talent. It’s sad that sales is now taboo.

This place was my employment of choice before the culture changed. I personally experienced the aftereffects of the Wachovia merger. Then, the fake account scandal dampened morale across the company.Everyone I knew in executive leadership in the bank was displaced or retired coincidentally with the implementation of DEI. Finally, those of us have been around for decades have been constantly moved to zombie teams In hopes we just become demoralized and leave the company. Fat chance. I’m a zombie employee in the midst of being quietly fired and quietly quitting. So, I will continue to enjoy my nice biweekly fat paycheck, annual bonus, in hopes I can get my nice six figure severance.
