Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

T-Mobile : Software Engineer of 6 years laid off today

I was just laid off and the director did not give any reasons why. The whole meeting lasted for 8 minutes and he was explicit in telling me that this had nothing to do with performance. If you’re an engineer, now is the best time to start making plans out of T-Mobile. They’re planning to outsource all jobs except cybersecurity. There’s also a good chance that Elon Musk will end up owning large shares very soon, but I am not sure how this is going to help anybody when their stocks have been inflated since the merger. With all this, some of the higher ups got raises and bonuses last quarter. :)

The entire Network Operations Center at the Atlanta Center was laid off. Last Week, they laid off the department that handles customer billing for the system itself, not actual care representatives. The billing department is being outsourced completely. I have caught a few outsourced activations reps doing some malicious cr-p on customer's accounts. For example, an offline activations rep deleted my rate plan change and changed it to a military plan. they had no contact with the cx and account was not military verified. So the new cx would have had discount rate for three months and then jump to regular rate plan. Obviously this would cause an issue. I don't know why they lie so much to our customers and do things on purpose, but it is so frustrating as a care rep to take those calls, especially when we have a 6 minute only call time. I am unvaccinated and this company is toxic as he-l. I lost about $600 - $800 in bonus pay a month with the bonus structure change that occurred last September and they changed it again this month, I will now be loosing even more in bonus pay. So it'll be closer to an $800-$1,000 loss a month, all while Mike S and other SLT got bonuses last quarter!

I was told by the director that all of our team, except contractors, were being let go. He said they were going to an “outsourcing model.” For contractors, he said, it was business as usual. So if you don’t believe the first person that mentioned it in this thread, then maybe you will now.

A few things: The director COULDN'T give you a reason why because they don't know. The decisions were made way above them.

It's ALWAYS a good idea to keep your resume updated and your professional network strong. It's very human to get lulled into a false sense of job security when there never really was any. I'm following my own advice: Believe me, the people who weren't cut today are feeling like they won't be so lucky next time.

It's clear that some orgs handled things differently. Some teams suffered more losses, packages may have had differences, and some people were clearly shown more compassion than others. But in the end, they all are hurting today no matter what the calculus that resulted in their separation was or how it was handled.

As to the outsourcing comment, if you have information that supports that, please share what you can. I have seen nothing at all to suggest a massive influx of contractors, but I'd love to know about it if it's coming.

I was let go, Engineer with 17 years service. When I hired on I was told this would be a cradle to grave job. Well that didn't work out!

T Mobile is going downhill fast I just spoke with your customer service supervisor Matthew and he had a nasty attitude. I have been with T Mobile since 2007 and after dealing with him Im ending my service.
