Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It appears that 40K heads will be cut.

Have not heard when this will start. Anybody heard anything? Typical at&t, disorganization in everything we do.

Pick your poison! 20% or 40K, both the same, except 20% seems more palatable. I love this place!

"The corporate rate has changed more than enough to convince those who might have stayed another year or two to leave b4 end of the year."

This gets brought up all the time as if everyone that has a pension is under the same pension plan. This is not the case at all. Some folk's pensions and lump sum values actually benefit from the increased interest rate environment. Check your SPD's and make sure you know what applies to you.

“The agreement between AT&T and the CWA doesn't require a certain numbers of head count numbers. Totally expect wireline sales & support to be cut (due to limited products offerings) along with skilled/craft jobs. AT&T will execute MSA with those suppliers that can perform installation & repair work. It's a proven model that works on the mobility side. Huge bottom line savings.”

Good luck with that! Go TT other competitors and ask how their contracting “craft” has been going! As it stands today, The contractors play the game for easy payouts with no accountability. Represented craft techs then go back out, on OT and double time to “win back the customer” and actually do the work they just paid the contractor to do….every day, all day folks! On top of that, most of the contractors are highest bidder laborers that are not “skilled” in anything by any means. Many times they go “awol” overnight to the highest need, highest paid industry looking for limited time grunts. For instance, had 100+ leave to fight fires out west in 2 days…oh, you must be skilled in fighting fires, that’s dangerous stuff???? Nope, they are paying $100+/hr…see ya when I see ya next!!!

Seriously? That's an absurd number to think would be removed from the payroll! Once again, perhaps that is realistic over 10 years or so, but certainly not in one felt swoop! The company could not handle losing that many people so quickly. It will be gradual over a long period of time.

I guess you're right. 20% sounds much less threatening than 40K. However, the result is the same! I believe Stankey referred to this as "Headcount rationalization". Let's just see how much he chooses to rationalize! The ba--s in his court.

Sounds about right, 40K or 20%, same either way. Time to get our house in order. No way to sugar coat what must be done.

They're are so many set to retire before the end of the end year bc every wants the most bang for their buck from their pensions. The corporate rate has changed more than enough to convince those who might have stayed another year or two to leave b4 end of the year.

Just you wait, 2500? Thats a drop in the bucket. These are unusual times, large debt load. Not enough work to keep workforce busy, way too many employees. Not enough office space to accommodate employee base.

We might, just maybe see only around 2500 employees released from the pain and suffering of enduring AT&T employment by year end! This massive layoff speculation is nothing more than wishful thinking, just not feasible! Possibly, 40k over the next 10 years, but that's a long way off. Lots of natural attrition between now and then!

I’ve seen the results from when contractors try and do craft work and it’s absolute garbage.

For a cut that big - T will use the stick instead of the carrot.

$25,000 x 40,000 = $1000 Million or $1 Billion

Let’s see, if average severance is 6 months (cause they’ll be blowing out the old people) times $25K (half of $50K salary for a level 1 in N2 zone) times 40,000 employees that would be… lemme see, $100 Million dollars! A drop in the bucket compared to how many billions the DTV and WB disasters have cost us.

Can't replace craft at least this year with the agreement T has with the union. Unless, of course if T is willing to offer craft some type of severance packages to their rank and file!
I certainly doubt that will ever happen!

How many employees are currently in T post WM spin off?

Heard that they are looking to replace craft with contractors. Set pay without the OT. It would save 100’s of millions.

First it was 20% of sales, now it’s 20 percent of the whole company. Nobody knows and everything is just speculation and exaggeration to make it sound like the sky is falling.

The company could do a management pay cut of 20% along with level demotions. Suspend bonuses for two years. Layoff 15% of management in overhead departments.

I believe OP is correct. Stankey and Santone are not messing around, T's future is at stake, and they know it. Only way to survive is through major headcount rationalization. It won't be pretty, but it has got to be done.

What a WHOPPER of a rumor to start! We ALL know this is nothing more than wishful thinking! T couldn't afford to lose 40k employees! Give it up...ain't gonna happen!

There is no way Toxic T has the $ with $150B of debt to pay severance to 40k workers.

Stink will find a free way of getting rid of the number he needs by making T more Toxic. More take aways, more rebadging, more outsourcing, perhaps more sales of whole organizations.
