Interest in Leaving letters

Historically, do most people who chose to say “YES” to an Interest in Leaving Survey receive a surplus letter and accompanying severance? Any thoughts on percentage of “Interested” volunteers that the Company accepts for surplus (or % not accepted)?

Last layoff in my old org, people got 2 weeks severance and shown the door. Didn’t matter years of service. 2 weeks that was it. Boy were they shocked. Idk how they got away with it as it was not what was in the hr docs. Time before that, folks got rebadged from ATT to tech Mahindra as contractors. No joke, idk how that was legal. Those folks either took it or were told they voluntarily quit. Then all those people got worked like dogs until they eventually got fired or let go. Packages aren’t a thing anymore unless you are a bargained employee.

Yeah, a few years ago about 6 engineers took the offer & left and my & another 2 level called us into a room and my ding back boss says "we're gonna give W's work to C, then she says we're gonna give T's work to C and then the other 2nd level says we're gonna give M's work to C and we're gonna give D's work to C" and I'm already doing the work of 3". So I say, looks to me like I'm doing 7 mgr's work - do I now work 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week? Just incredible. So then I say, tell you what - just fire all of your swinging Di-ks & I'll do the work for all the 1st levels and you 2 2nd levels - I want double my salary & the company will save $millions. I career pathed out in about 3 mos. Don't know if they thought I could actually do that much work or if they thought they would force me to leave. I did leave FOR A PROMOTION JOB!

No. They get rid of the others and retain you. Then they dump all the extra work on you knowing it makes you miserable and then you quit without severance.

Here's the letter you requested:

Dear @OP+1iWZhtam,

We are interested in you leaving.

Sincerely,

My experience with volunteering is they think I will leave anyway saving them severance. So someone else got let go and I got sidelined until I quit.

Unfortunately, bargained for employees don't have the luxury or opportunity to volunteer for early retirement. We just have to wait and see if we'll be impacted at all. I'd rather they go through the ranks to see who would be willing to leave rather than terminate those that are young and need the job and/or are supporting a family.

A few yrs back I volunteered for an offer & 5 people from my workgroup were chosen.
I had more service than 2 of them & was not allowed because of my "critical knowledge".
3 of the 5 had plans to return as contractors until I approached my Division & told him that they were retired in place for decades, spent the day playing solitaire and if they were hired back me and my "critical knowledge" were career pathing out or possibly retiring. I stayed for another 1.5 years, left, worked for a competitor for another 15 yrs.
Bottom line - leave this he-l hold ASAP unless your related to a President level & are guaranteed a VP job spending your day on the golf course.

In my experience (25 plus years), when volunteers are solicited, they are usually longer tenured employees, retirement eligible, and yes there requests are acommodated.

It simply makes the process easier for your Boss(es), so it's kind of a no brainer.

Even if there is no official "volunteer to leave" process component to the current round(s), if you're sure that you'd like to go then let your boss know unofficially.

Managers at T are taught early on not to mollycaudle their employees. No need for all the circus acts, if you wanna go, just go. You are wasting your time here.

If you are interested in leaving, but only in the case of layoff, tell your supervisor. Not a guarantee that you will be picked, but most really do not want to have to let people go. Offering yourself up makes it a lot easier in them.

But be advised, once you tell them, you can’t really take it back.

Interest in Leaving has been eliminated, no more packages or deals. Just get your 2 weeks and you're gone.

Never received a letter of interest in a layoff so no idea of what your chance of being surplused if you say yes

What in the he-l are you talking about? Sounds like you're dreaming about something that just doesn't happen within the ranks!
