Its difficult to imagine trying to pay off $135B in debt. I guess it's possible, just not likely. I'm more inclined to believe the federal government will end up paying the lions share of the debt. The clock is ticking, I just don't see any way T can avoid bankruptcy.

Pascal and Stankey gettin jiggie with it!
When quarterly reports are released, Pascal and Stankey are required to act like overjoyed imbicles. Doesn't matter the results, good or bad. They over-emphasize any metric that is not blatantly negative. They are crooks, that's what crooks do.
If the company isn't doing well at all, then why is it that when T declares its quarterly reports, they seem to be doing it like a bunch of cheer leaders? Almost as though T beat all expectations and did a tremendous job? I know it doesn't help the stock price, but Stankey almost sounds joyous, delighted for the results. We can't be doing that poorly!
$125B annual revenue is what we pulled in ten years ago. We weren't paying down $135B debt back then and due to current inflation, those $125B went a lot further back then. The company isn't doing well, at all.
Why doesn't Pascal reach out to one of these credit repair companies? He could get at&t relief from about half of its debt. I don't know about you but 67.5B sounds a lot better than $135B to me. The credit repair company would also counsel Pascal and Stankey on how to move forward without creating more debt, to avoid repeating the same debt issue in the future.
Not much hope for the likes of at&t. High debt at $135B, dwindling revenue, way too many employees, too much stranded equity. Declaring bankruptcy is no longer a death sentence. T would need to replace C suite and BOD to survive post bankruptcy.
I just wet my pants again cuz I heard the word "debt".
I love how the $135B of debt will just disappear as inflation rises. I want some of what you are smokin. The reality is the cost of debt rises with inflation. Nobody, I mean nobody, gets a free ride.
It would be nice to declare bankruptcy and get rid of the bloated workforce. Come back with lean and productive company. Take care of the investors.

C'mon T going bankrupt, no way, first off T like the other Telecom majors is a protected class of business by the US Government. It's a "critical national infrastructure " and will always be back stopped.
Second. T has a nice fat pool of recurring revenue, they have a. Big fat economic moat with all the spectrum they aquired.. and with wireless data becoming ever more.important they will continue to see revenue growth in newer segments (connected cars, iot, health data etc.)...

Burning through that revenue like a diabetic on insulin.
All I got from this is T is big and fat! Cause of death? Diabetes!
You must be stuck with T stock!
Reality!
chance of Bankruptcy 49%.

Some people just wet their pants when someone says "debt".
Its not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Gotta love all the Stankey bootlickers with their pollyanna attitude! They just want to join hands around the campfire, sing kumbaya, and eat smores. They are clueless, they can't wrap their head around $135B of debt. Some, perhaps all, even believe the debt will totally disappear as inflation rises!
No, but who cares? Does not affect me one iota.
Oh yeah, declare bankruptcy. More money for investors. Woo-hoo.
You only run into issues if you can't pay your debit, so no.
Well, with the current inflation, 10% of the debt has already vaporized. And some of that debt is in Euros. All these central banks printing money - helps heavily indebted companies.
With a du----s CEO like Stankey, it's very likely T will end up bankrupt. He ain't got a clue how to run a company. Always remember, current and past performance are the best indicators of future performance. If you think Stankey has T's best interests at heart, think again. He could care less, as long as he keeps getting his paycheck.

another d-mb post. Bankruptcy - not even a remote possibility for the foreseeable future.
A great dividend and bankruptcy to avoid paying the debt. Sounds like a great investment opportunity.
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it!
Forget bankruptcy. Just shut the company down and start a new company without the debt or workers we don't need. It'll be a new company without any of the baggage done the right way.
Ha, Enron. How long did you take to find that company? Or are you one of those bitter old man that can't let go fo the past?
@eeq+1iV3jgTw Never say never. Same language was used with Enron. Although situations are different the size of A T T doesnt matter. They are using similar accounting practices though. A T T is reporting that the reason for their reduced cash flow is customers not paying bills on time. They are not being truthful about 50k landlines being disconnected per month.
Its not foolish or ignorant, A T T is completely mismanaged from all levels.
I don't think you can file bankruptcy while paying a large dividend.
Why not? GM, Worldcom, and Enron did. We want some of that sauce!
Big beautiful debt, to make AT&T great again.
The bigger burden is servicing the debt with increasing interest rates. This will allow less money to be available to reinvest in A T T. I dont believe A T T will file for bankruptcy, it is still very profitable. It will continue to slide down as competitors take more of our market.
A big problem is that we have 30 year employees managing the company. We need outside talent that can thrust A T T forward.
C'mon people! A federal bankruptcy judge will NEVER allow T to declare bankruptcy while it pulls in revenues of $125 Billion dollars per year! Never ever happen in our lifetimes! So, to come on this site and talk about hoe T should declare bankruptcy is foolish and ignorant!
No the Federal Govt will not pay the debt.
T will have to end the dividend, prove in BK court that they cannot pay their bills, and the Common Stock Holders will lose 100% and the debt will either be wiped out to 0 or the debt holders will receive pennies on the dollar, the preferred stock holders will get what's left if any after the debt is settled, the company will be re-structured AND start as new.
Just like GM. But NO, the Fed. Govt. will not pay off anything.
I don’t think you can file bankruptcy while paying a large dividend.
Chapter 11 restructure your debt might be the best path for T.
