Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Worried? It IS better at other carriers

I left Allstate 6 months ago. I was worried about layoffs even though I worked 7 days a week. At my new job I am not micromanaged anywhere near to the extent I was at Allstate. When I review a demand, it is not picked apart line by line by someone who doesn’t handle claims. If you are worried that if you leave it will be just as bad somewhere else, don’t be. Just check around first. Some are awful but most insurers are better than Allstate!!

Also, other carriers assess talent, promotions, and upward mobility objectively. When’s the last time you heard HR weighing in on one of those sketchy promotions you tend to see at Allstate? Other carriers don’t just allow a short tenured employee with little experience (but happens to know some VP in high places) to be promoted up the ranks when there’s a more qualified individual with a track record of success with the role and company.

I was with the company for many years in a claims capacity handling many different states and various levels of leadership and I have to say, I’m quite shocked by how they determined who to promote up the ranks. It’s quite disturbing.

Anything is better than ALL. So many recruiters out there looking for insurance experience right now and you have a lot of bargaining power if you have any skill whatsoever. Strike while it’s hot.

I was offered a job where I set my own hours and it’s flexible. I can work any hours I want from 5 am to 8 pm and mix it up how ever often I want. I get less PTO overall but I haven’t really noticed because it’s so flexible.

I also make $10k more in salary with a bonus of $12k-$25k.

I have little to no stress now. I was waking up with panic attacks at night working at Allstate.

RUN, don’t walk.

Also other carriers actually give you the day after Thanksgiving off and don’t force a certain amount of people to work each day. Ever try to get a summer week off in claims if you don’t have 15+ years experience? Not hard like that at other carriers.

Some of the comments from current Allstaters about being an ex employee, nobody cares etc are pretty short sighted. Ever heard of boomerang employees? Good companies stay in touch with ex employees if they were good workers. Ex employees who still care about the company and would like to see changes shouldn’t just be disregarded. Allstate is nowhere close to being good enough to ignore former employees.

Allstate has decent PTO but so do most carriers. Like anything, PTO is very negotiable and other carriers are struggling to find good talent.

Went to a competitor for 15k in additional salary, bonus eligible, less required file reviews, and a local and present HR team that actually asks me where I see myself in a few years and works with me to get me to my goals. Talk about night and day!!

I gave up some PTO & couldn’t buy more. Realistically, I always worked on my days off. With a more reasonable workload, I have more free time overall.
I should also mention I don’t have to take inquiry calls, and spend my time actually handling injury claims instead of dealing with some random call about rental that I have no authority to fix.

How's the PTO at other carriers?

The remaining tenured folks on the front line have no idea how much money they are leaving on the table by staying here. Not to mention work life balance. Shame they are too afraid to make the jump. Even poor performers here are leaving for significantly larger salaries.

Other carriers also pay the market rate for wages unlike Allstate.
