Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Red flags

Maybe I'm overly anxious, so everything seems like a red flag to me. Are there any subtle signs that very likely indicate that one will be cut?

When your boss avoids you like the plague.

When they start taking away work from you and ask you to show your colleagues how to do your work. When you are being shut out of meetings for new projects. When you try to contribute in meetings and your superiors dismiss your comments or act like they did not hear you. This is what they do when they are trying to get you to voluntarily leave, hopefully to save a headcount for someone they are trying to protect when they expect an impending layoff.

You know you could be a target when you walk into the office and they are playing musical chairs!

As someone else indicated, most times your VP or Director don’t know and/or weren’t given a choice in advance. They get a list and you get invited to a meeting. :(

Everyone is paranoid, walking on eggshells. No wonder, like Stankey stated, no one is safe.

If you are doing your job well, you should have nothing to worry about. If you contribute very little to the bottom line, your job should be a risk.

The guy that fills up the c-suite executives cars is safe. Not only does the c-suite get free gas, they’re to lazy to fill it up themselves!!! Free gas, free parking, free insurance and free carwash!!

At one point my whole team had to reapply for our jobs. That was a pretty obvious hint :)

I made the list along with my boss and a good chunk of folks underneath him. We had just moved under this new AVP less than 8 months ago. During those 8 months the new AVP did not take proactive interest in what we did. We even changed our direction to what was most important to new AVP - our outputs though advanced and ahead of schedule were systematically ignored. So AVP showed no interest in our capabilities and did not show interest in our output.

If you don’t hv much to do and nobody is worrying about it then not a good sign.

GM’s (3rd and 4th lines) are on the chopping block. I would only trust VP and above for any headcount updates

I called for repair this morning at 8AM as my internet went out 11PM last night and there was a tech at my door 2 hrs later. While I as a customer and former employee really appreciate it the bottom line is there are too many techs out there if they are desperately looking for a job to do.

No way to tell. Frankly the VPs, AVPs and Directors don't really know if they are on the chopping block either.

To be completely honest, it sounds like paranoia setting in.
