Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

First time I don't want survive cuts

I used to be anxious as soon as someone mentioned possible cuts. Now, I sincerely hope that I will be a target, get a package and finally get some relief from this company. I have no doubt that there are many more who would like to get on the list for forced reductions...

Yeah missing old good times where layoffs where popping up every couple of months. These meetings with our great leaders where they were sending threats and asking us to be on a lookout for an email from HR. The thrill, the suspense and the wait. Constant reorgs. Where are they now?

Why do folks keep insisting on using the word "packages"?

There are no "packages", there have been no "packages" for years now, and you can bet your bippy that there will be no "packages" going forward.

There is still severance, to which you are entitled if you are laid off, according to the terms in the relevant plan (management or bargained for).

No "packages".

Tell your boss that if they have a layoff you want to go.

Why not just volunteer when they offer it in case you’re not selected if you really want it like you say.

ABFS, ATT Business Field Services is growing and needs more personnel to get the jobs done in out of region areas of the country! Currently, T doesn't have the necessary personnel to complete the work. They need to hire, but can't due to the hiring freeze!

The problem with that mindset is that once you achieve a high level of seniority, the chances of getting a severance package are slim to none! I have more than 3 decades of seniority and would like nothing more than a severance package, but I happen to be in an area of the business that is growing and needs people, more techs and more managers. The hiring freeze is ki----g that growth potential at this time, but the assumption is that once it is lifted, full speed ahead! The possibilities are endless!

highly doubt that. What org is possibly growing right now?

I’m finally at a point where I shouldn’t have to worry about getting surplused due to my seniority, but it’s definitely been stressful over the years. I’ve been surplused 5 times, transferred just ahead of a surplus once, and constantly worried every 3 months for years if I was going to be on the list. It’s hard to make any long-term plans or make any big purchases just because you are never more than a few months away from getting the axe.

I totally understand the feeling of relief if you do finally get the axe, although the reality of finding a new job will likely bring more stress to you. If you need to take same stress leave, it’s readily available through EAP and unfortunately is a very common thing for T employees because of the conditions of working for this company the last 15-20 years.

Why not try FMLA? It's free and will help you get some balance back in your life.
