Look for a split in wireline and wireless. The spiral downward can’t continue. Wireline will be set up as its own company and saddled with the debt. Wireless will wind up as a spin-off.
Look for thousand of layoffs by year end.

THis is Randall speaking here. Company will be splitted into 172,400 small companies, one employee per company.
That would be the best thing for all of the individual companies, let each company do what it does best and not try to lump them all together and pretend they are all one company.. They never have been.
In reality they are already, and have always been, split up, they are just operating under one falsely "branded" name.
One person can be a good pediatrician and have a good practice, but when you also start having a veterinarian and a horticulturist and a landscaper and a lawyer and an auto mechanic all sharing the same office space and all calling themselves the same name you just cannot expect the focus or quality that your customers pay for.
The companies are legally still all different companies, giving Cingular back it's name and splitting wireless out of the AT&T brand would be so easy, drop the cricket name altogether, they are just a marketing gimmick anyway.
Also split DTV back off, they bring nothing to the table and could do much better on their own.
Split AT&T back off and leave them with what they came with, AT&T longlines and Bell Labs. Bell labs has been a non-performer since divestiture and longlines could be viable as a reseller special services reseller but the longdistance business is almost nothing anymore, either way the AT&T name and all their failed business practices bed to go on their merry way..
That leaves all the utilities which are all landbased services and feed all the wireless and data services, without all the landlines, there are no wireless services or special services, they all travel through landlines.
All the utility companies are still the same but have just been "branded" AT&T. SBC still owns SWBT, PAC-TEL, Americr@p (Ohio Bell, Illinois Bell, Indiana Bell, Michigan Bell and Wisconsin Bell), BELLSOUTH (Southern Bell, Southcentral Bell, too many to list or remember).
Give the different technologies (wireline, wireless and satellite TV) back their own independence and let them do what they do best.
I feel each could have a chance to flourish again but in their own individual businesses.
They’ve crashed all the other planes into the mountain, so might as well get some more.
Nobody buys planes anymore. T just bought a brand new corporate jet aircraft. It was badly needed to replace one of the six corporate jets. No sure what they paid, although these are not paid for with a one and done. They come with recurring monthly expenses, big, I mean big monthly expenses.
I heard that AT&T just purchased a new airplane—what the heck?
The problem is that AT&T has over 200k employees and spends billions on consultants because the current employee base doesn’t have adequate skills!! There is too much dead overhead.
Too many overpaid L1 management employees that get OT / make over $100k for what is “temp like” work and probably can be done by part-time workers. No one is looking at this. No one cares. Employees know that they won’t be fired and are just hoping they are not in an org that will be downsized.
Stanley is gonna cut the unneeded workers and make the company run well again. Make AT&T great again.
Just like Verizon did with its wireline business which btw also included fiber. What did the new owners win? Bankruptcy.
The true end game is that at&t doesn't want to own anything. Sell everything off, even at fire sale prices. If they need towers, backhaul transport, buildings, etc. Lease it all. There isn't a whole lot left to sell yet, but they will continue to sell and lease back as needed.
There you go again! Stankey ain't got the guts to cut 40K employees. It's inevitable, headcount rationalization will happen, just not sure if it will be in this decade.
This company is running on autopilot, Stankey can be found mumbling in a corner @ 1 at&t plaza!
Everyone has an opinion but what we need are facts!
If we don't do this, we will be managing decline.
Made up. But as a long time wireless employee it would sure be welcomed.
These comments should be prefaced “In my opinion” unless the OP knows has some inside info but if he or she did have said info it’s highly unlikely they would post it here as I’m quite certain a NDA would have to be signed
Where did this come from? Is it just a personal thought or is there some validity?
If this is true then who owns the fiber? That’s the important question. Whoever owns that wins.
They'll sell it off and lease it back. They've done that with real estate, wireless towers, etc. They love to do that because it brings in a big pile of up front cash that they can use to make current bottom line results look better and, of course, reward themselves. The incompetence, dishonesty and greed of T management is a good argument for re-regulation of the telecom industry.
Who owns the fiber wins? If that is true, why is TMO winning? They don't own any fiber/backhaul and have a pretty simple business model that is making some cash for them. It should be "who owns the fiber" has the boat anchor. Just think how simple an ATT wireless build would be not having to use ATT wireline for backhaul. Just submit a circuit request to any local LEC and they will call you when it's delivered.
I checked with Randall and we feel good about splitting the company in two. Everyone else should feel good about this new direction, as well.
Love,
Jeff
