I put mine in a week ago, and it just kept saying "Processing". I cannot proceed further until they look at it. Called again today. Fidelity's back office is overwhelmed with all the retirement requests.

Stop 401k contribution because you are losing money !!!
That is crazy. Keep contributing for the tax benefit. You can limit your risk / change where your contribution is invested to something more in line with your risk. Also, You can get rid of the ATT shares as you accumulate and invest them in whatever meets your needs
Maybe Fidelity is overwhelmed by people who want to take their money out while they can as they see huge losses and no growth. At this point, I think I want to stop my 401k contribution EVEN if it is matched. We are losing so much of our money in this sinking ship.

Just because you’re retirement eligible does not necessarily mean you are ready to retire or have the financial means to do so. If I was in this situation five years ago I wouldn’t even consider retiring and that would have been without any penalties

Well my office has a ton of retirement eligible people but nobody is putting in to leave. Our office has no work either, so if there isn’t a surplus in my office I’d be shocked. They have no reason to keep so many people…unless management is just trying to keep their jobs by having us stay.
Proof positive that I don't believe there will be much of an involuntary layoff this year or even a voluntary for that matter. T is just going to sit back to see what happens by year end, wait for the dust to settle and then take it from there!
