Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I have a question in mind about AT&T stock

Why can’t AT&T give stock with offer price to employee or stock bonus to employee?

In that way, many employees will buy stocks with offer price and flow will be increased and then stock price will go up.

Supply and demand the AT&T stock because of employees purchase plan.

HA HA !!

Your post says give to employees. If you mean management employees they can give whatever they want at any time.

If you mean non-management, something like that must be bargained for and approved by the union. If you are non-management you must be very new not to know this, You need to learn that if it's not in the contract you're not getting it. The union wants total approval over anything the employees get.

Also, somewhere around 2001 or 2002 the employees did, once, get the union to bargain for stock options for non-management. We were issued stock options once and the strike-price for the options was $43.58 (or somewhere close to that). We all joked that the stock price would NEVER go over that number as long as the options were valid (5 years, I think). And sure enough, the stock never went over that price until after the options expired worthless.

The new law just voted in will stop a lot of the stock buybacks as companies will get hit with a fine now to do so diluted stock should tank even more

Directors and above get a stock grant every year. The grants vest 1/3 a year. So, if you get a $50K grant, then you would be able to cash a 1/3 in and assuming it stayed flat you'd get about 16,666 additional a year. Directors and above also have the option to participate in a salary deferral program. So, if you defer say 50,000 a year in salary, and that buys you 2000 shares, the company will give you an extra 400 shares(for every 5 shares you buy with your deferral, you get a 6th share). It's not a bad deal if the stock stays flat or goes up, because you're making 20%(unless my math is off).

Once you become a Director you have options for stock purchase program. They can designate a portion of bonus every year to be split in stock, in addition to the options they receive.

Why would anyone want to own that dog. The stock will below $18 in a few months! Stankey and Randall are the only ones making out with the dividend payments. Randall alone still gets over $2 million a year in dividends.

Been there, done that. They used to give us stock options as a “bonus” and not once were they ever worth a dime. Cash only from now on please.

I'd rather have the cash, then I can invest in a company whose stock actually has a chance of going up.

The more ATT shares that are out there, the more diluted the stock becomes, less valuable. That is why in some cases, companies actually buy back their own stock in order to drive up the value of the outstanding shares.
