Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Any layoff news?

I keep hearing management say no ROMs are in the future but I just don't believe them with the track record of non stop layoffs since MW took over. Any rumors out there?

I think you are on the wrong site for layoff related info. This site is primarily dominated by idle company gossip and unrelated chit-chat by workers with no life, career aspirations nor goals. They just burn man-hours here instead of actually doing what they are being paid to do and incessantly complain about things as a cover for being upset that they have to work at all instead of being grateful that they are highly compensated for little to no work output.

Contractor to employee conversion is through the ceiling. Lots of external hiring especially in Agile chapter.

It is not true that only lowly jobs are posted. I just filled a good job via external recently and I have spoken to others doing the same. External is generally a last resort but we are pulling now as a reaction to CNE and the 2020 layoffs.

@3nfk, you must not know Chevron. Chevron hires college grads, mostly through the intern program, and experienced jobs are filled from within. A rare external hire every now and then, and only in unimportant peripheral jobs (HR, Finance, D&I). Postings on Chevron.com are either window dressing to appear to be hiring, or desperation where no internal candidate could be identified.

@5fbo Are you in executive management since you seem to have an obsession with layoffs?

Just because Chevron has numerous job postings doesn't mean they are hiring. Typically, there is already a favorite candidate for the position but it needs to be posted due to legal reasons.

The most telling thing is the HR reaction to the San Ramon move was "not about layoffs for this move". 🙈

@2pgx, Indeed. and I would suggest that you add your own name/function to the list to finish it off and make it more comprehensive. The Axeman cometh.

I would guess 15% of the company are useless advisors, coordinators and managers who add no value and in fact get in the way of good business. They must go.

Why not get rid of all the D&I positions, they are are not contributing anything to the company

I love me some layoffs. Need to cut out some of the do-nothing D&I fluff positions.

Apparently NH has a BCG consultant that just follows him around the globe and does all his projects. So yeah, the first step will be to do layoffs as BCG is not that creative and knows nothing about our business. But hey lower costs = more profit!

WTI is under $90 now, soon it will be under $65 [my guess is by Christmas], then the lay off news will be for you Valentine's day!

What’s OPG?

Let me understand. Large % of San Ramon based staff don’t move with their position to Houston and you think CVX needs fewer employees?

When RM says there will be no layoffs in HR, she needs the HR folks docile to facilitate the layoffs of other disciplines in OPG. When that job is done the axe will be yielded on the HR team.

OPG gives SR and MW the perfect smoke-screen for more layoffs.

Isnt that the kiss of death?

Layoffs in 2023 with OPG. The signs are all there guys and gals. I know of a few other ones but cant share publicly.

It may not be Renewal bad but it will be maybe 5%.

RM said in yesterday’s HR town hall that there is no ROM or layoff for HR. This should keep HR employees focused on their functional plans and priorities.

The signs are there you just need to know where to look.

Take a look at the slide deck where they announce the new Oil Product and Gas structure. The last slide is about stress management. Why would they put stress management on an org structure unless maybe there is more they are not telling us? Likely they have more slides and fewer positions but they just held them out until 2023.

The company can't take much more change. Management has already put everyone through a lot so surely they are wise enough to not further destroy morale.

Before any kind of layoffs of the rank and file Executive Management needs to do the right thing and take a cut themselves. Stop putting it all on the rank and file while doing nothing to help.

In 2015, JJ visited my BU and said, “There are no plans for a layoff.” Two weeks later ESP was announced.

In 2020 management said no layoffs 2 weeks before announcing layoffs. Trust management at your own risk.
