James Suttles age 44, a 24 year lineman with ATT was tragically ki---d today on 8/3/2022 (Ellenwood, GA, Henry County) when the bucket in his work truck made contact with overhead electrical wires, electrocuting him in the truck and then causing his truck to explode. @2pnp+1i2HcXLK MSOC/ESM is a very inaccurate software tool used to measure technician productivity that's usually abused by micromanagers who barely understand the job. Leads to a lot of resentment, burnout, poor quality, cherry picking, etc. OPT is Outside Plant Technician aka lineman, the most dangerous job in the company. Seen too many of them get injured trying to make numbers and hide their injuries from "safety" witch hunts to keep their jobs and avoid even more brain dead regulations that accelerate chronic injuries like torn shoulders and herniated disks.

what does ESM and OPT stand for? I am in Tech Dev and am not familiar with those acronyms.

Even after tragedies like these, T will just propose adding more traffic cones to the work area instead of fixing or getting rid of ESM. Rest in peace brother.
So sad. and like the previous post said , management is too worried about ESM and dont give a rats azz about someones safety. Thats why I retired as a OPT at the first of the year. Got tired of telling managers that jobs where too unsafe for one or two guys.
Saw the news clip but hadn’t seen who it was. Based on the pictures of what appeared to be a placing truck, I’m guessing he was a fellow OPT. The company used to send multiple people out for placing operations (both aerial and underground) and pole transfers for safety precautions, but gave that up because they wanted our ESM numbers to look better, which in turn gives them a bigger bonus. Absolutely terrible for him and his family.
