Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Hiring freeze

Our department is currently under a hiring freeze and I know for a fact other departments are still hiring. We desperately need more people so it's not as if we were fully staffed and they decided we don't need anybody else. Does anybody know how this works and why we are being targeted and not others?

I work in the mid cities osp work center, too many techs with no work. We show up,
grab our 1 or 2 orders, sit in the shade all day or drink tequila shots at Mercado Juarez. Just collecting a paycheck with terrible health care but at top pay - and if you don't take it serious - great gig.

So many layoffs and so many reorgs. Got rid of DTV and WM but still not enough. T can”t deliver. I think nobody believes change is possible.

Guessing OP is sort of new to the madness of T executives. Don't expect rationality, aligning resource plan to work load, that is ridiculous . They use analogy like "landing the plane", and burn a lot of energy on controlling cost. If they only spend the same energy on products and sales.

Does the hiring freeze apply to bargained for personnel as well? I haven't heard of any news preventing management from hiring more technicians, although, my org has been trying to hiring a replacement, but either has no takers or the job req was pulled, not quite sure.

This is part of the cash flow savings. There are 2 big levers that T can pull to help with cash flow 1) slow the network build by deferring 2) stop hiring people and right sizing those business units that are struggling to contribute. Next step will be stack rank your people, then notifications.
