Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What is your definition of ‘human rights’?

This is a question out of the Agree/Disagree (A&D) post.
Post from TheLayoff.com
Post asks if Chevron should enforce human rights. Responses are low because we don’t know what the post is defining as ‘human rights’. What do you consider a human right and by what authority is it given? UN, World Economic Forum, your country’s constitution, your religion/belief system?
I personally believe Chevron defines ‘human rights’ to align with the UN Human Rights definition. Not the most credible source in my opinion. As a matter of enforcement, Chevron applies it unequally by country. In Muslim countries they will tolerate discrimination against homosexuals, women and religion. So my answer is no. Chevron doesn’t see their job as equal protectors of human rights. That is consistent with how their source of truth, the UN Human Rights Committee, approaches it too. Surprise surprise!

No. Chevron needs to stick with pumping oil out of the ground and improving dividends. Focus on our mission to provide affordable energy.

It has been stated throughout history by many much wiser that a "right" does not require another person or people to provide a service for you or interface with you at all. For instance, providing you with something to eat or drink.

CVX HR, you're in a bit of a pickle right now trying to force remaining CA employees to move to Houston. A policy action doesn't need to intend to be discriminatory, only the effect. Trying to force women to move to a state where they now do not maintain their full and complete human rights can be interpreted as hostile to women. You know that California will agree.

OP, you must be joking. The businesses are not about making the world a better place, but about making as much profit as they can. Meaning they’ll do anything that pays off regardless of (definitions of) human rights, and all O&G companies perfected that. It’s almost like they are competing who’s gonna get a bigger “controversies” section on wiki.

Inflationary wages is a human right, as is time off.

Muslims have the right to a job with Chevron and the right to believe anything they like.
