Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Managing an understaffed team

This is what managing an understaffed team looks like here:

  • Convincing employees that we are not understaffed
  • Convincing employees that they are not productive enough because they are not trying hard enough
  • Taking a stand as if we should be grateful to HW for working here
  • Increasing employee workloads to untenable levels

Can HW solve the problems of understaffing in any other way?

Tell your staff the truth. They know it anyway. No credibility if you lie to them. Support them when they seek opportunities outside of Honeywell.

Re the Boeing solution: that worked real well for the 737 MAX, right? I hope that was your point.

@1cs, you're right, it should work that way but it doesn't. Managers are squeezed from the top down 'til they pop or make it to director. Those who do dare to push back are PIPed or pushed out the door. There is no leadership factor in HON management...they are just tools to mind the paperwork and carry out the directives of the LT. It is non-negotiable.

Hire managers with sufficient yayechka to say no when work exceeds resources. It is the manager's job to do this ...literally their only real job.

Boeing solution: outsourcing safety critical systems so management can focus on STRAPs, Working Capital, and AOPs

The Honeywell culture as dictated by DA and MM:

  • The serfs are not to be trusted, their jobs are to be outsourced ASAP
  • Serfs that keep their jobs are to be abused as far as they will allow
  • Everything positive that happens is due to excellent management
  • Everything negative that happens is due to "headwinds", market conditions, serfs, and any other convenient excuse for the poor decisions of management; the Biden method
  • We need less serfs and more management
  • Less serfs = bigger bonuses for management = more h00kers and blow
  • Management oversight is to be 75% of cost of every project
  • Experienced serfs are not needed because our processes are so awesome
