Has anyone been invited by your manager to lunch? Said to celebrate my graduation, just feel it is odd. I didn’t know large corporations do something like that.

Our manager does a lot of lunches with one other employee in particular. Looking at her, it's easy to guess what's going on. One of those Nobody Knows but Everybody KNOWS situations. None of my business, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if somebody turned them in. It is causing some friction at work. The uninvolved spouses are the ones I feel sorry for.
manager took me & a co-worker lunch 5 years ago when it was our first day on the job, and they had a standing tradition of doing that with any new hires, but that was the only time I heard of it.
A couple times a year I would essentially convert an in person 1:1 into lunch, coffee, or a walk. It’s a change of pace and environment which can do good for the relationship and seems to lead to more candid discussion.
And generally no, WF covers no costs like this outside of approved anniversary gifts, so if your bottom rung manager does this, they are paying out of pocket. For me, I probably spend a few hundred bucks a year, but well worth it even if it doesn’t lead to positive results for everyone.
My manager can’t eat lunch alone, so he has his little bunch of bubbas who sit and listen in awe of his brilliance while he holds court every day.
If they’re not around he will sometimes “invite” whoever is unlucky enough to fall within his field of vision to listen to him brag about himself for an hour.
It’s not an invitation. It’s a command. If you value your job, you go.
This is typical for good managers. Has nothing to do with the company itself.
I normally take teammembers to lunch on their anniversaries. I'd never force someone to go and would often invite the team. Wells Fargo doesn't pay me back for it, it's just something I like to do.
Main issue is that I have teammembers in other states now, so I just send them a gift card to some local restaurant.
As someome else posted, if you don't feel comfortable, do not go.
Only invitation I would get from my manager would be an invitation for more work.
Certain lines of business, yes, once a month had lunch as team building.
Budget times- nope.
The last 3 years- nope.
If not comfortable, don’t go.
Congratulations! No Wells Fargo only celebrates 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 year anniversary. With recent lay offs anyone will be lucky to reach 20 years
