I am spending 20 hours of unproductive time just to get an hour of productive time in an Agile setup. All the scrum calls, fancy story-planning meetings, user stories documentation, hours to give updates, teams pushing back - people not being cooperative.
Everything is so slow and I can tell you that Agile is one of our biggist problems.

Agile is something leaders who lack actual vision want to say they are.

It's the word "agile" that gets upper management overheated.
If it was called "make a list, follow up", no one would bother.

WF needs to upscale. It’s called SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework). WF is clueless and will never upscale. Charlie Scharf is a wannabe CEO. Dimon tells jokes about Charlie’s pe--s when he’s not in the room. Trust me …Charlie is a joke.
To the person who compared Agile to Six Sigma, that was exactly my impression. I'm over here at JPMC and our Agile insanity seems similar to yours.
I specifically got into a different role, to avoid being sucked into Agile (too far). We have entire fiefdoms being built across the bank. People feverishly pi-ping the necessity of Agile, as a means to justify their very job at the bank.
It's a huge waste of time and money. My brother works at MS and has similar assessments from over there too.

Agile leads and Scrum Masters are the biggest joke. All they do is organize mtgs and ask what everyone has done. Ridiculous!
What is the end game of all this Agile stuff?
Agile sucks so badly at the bank because they took something that works well in other organizations, ba----dized it beyond recognition, called it ‘Wells Fargo Agile,’ and forced it upon technology. What we’re forced to use is waterfall with Jira and extra meetings.
Agile has made virtually every task more difficult and more time consuming, which translates to more expensive. Agile is too rigid. It adds a ton of overhead to simple little changes. At the same time, Agile is not robust enough for large efforts that span multiple LOBs.
Agile is just a methodology to get everyone working the same using the same tools to promote easy off-shoring. Wake up people and smell the coffee. No domestic tech in 5 years. Just India and the cloud providing for executive bonuses.

I think part of the problem is that these methodologies are being applied outside of the industries they originally evolved for. Six Sigma is meant for manufacturing/supply chain. Agile is meant for software development. Sure, elements of these can be useful in other industries, but if you take their respective playbooks in their entirety and try and implement them in a different industry (such as financial services), you end up with a lot of square-peg/round-ho-e issues.
In my experience here, Agile is the worst thing that's ever happened to the bank.
Even worse than the Fake Account Scandal. At least a light got shined on that, and it got corrected. But Agile...? It's like a cancer that isn't being treated.
They aren’t even running true Agile. They are calling it Agile, but it should be called ‘we get paid lots of money so we are going to do what we want’.
When a whole subset of your workforce is deemed 2nd class status by design, what do you expect? Penny wise pound foolish. Quit off shoring.
Agile, when done correctly, really does work well. The problem is that WF does a half assed job and just forces people to go through the motions without any real meaning. I left several months ago and moved to a company that actually has executive buy in for Agile, and it’s a completely different story, working as intended and teams are actually happy and high functioning..
All the replies point to a people problem. So no matter the working schema, if the people aren't great nothing will work as intended.
All them meetings, process, duplicated efforts--to justify their existence. Agile requires more resources and more resource hours to deliver half-assed results. Then we can all point fingers and waste more time recycling the same requirements.
ha yeah it is like a cult. What skill set does a scrum master even have really, i always wondered that. They might as well have called the job cult leader who sets up meetings to drink punch. Some of these guys get paid a ton of money too, they setup 30min meetings and ask you what you've been working on and are there any blockers. I once told them I had a blocker and it was like their little mind melted. I had to setup about 5 meetings to explain it to them, my boss, some other team, and was bugged non stop for a week what the status update was so it could show up in some deck. Its Fking crazy stuff.
Agile is like a cult religion that forces you to believe if your not successful your not doing it hard enough. It sucks all your time and energy.

Agile to me is the new Six Sigma, just a fad and a popular buzzword among managers.
was on a townhall recently where the guy in charge complained about the number of meetings and that we need to reduce them yet at the same time we are driving towards agile with all the meetings that will bring. between all the scrum meeting/sprints my team and I are on in addition to our own, we really don't have time for doing actual work given all the meetings.

I wish my team would convert to Agile. Then at least I could have some practical experience since that seems to be where everything is going. Instead when I apply to new jobs and they ask if I’ve ever worked in Agile, I say. Welll I’ve taken the training…
