Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stankey

Definitely don’t agree with some of his decisions but if I remember correctly he wasn’t the Chairman and CEO when the terrible decisions were made to go into massive debt and buy worthless assets. One of his first decisions when he took over was to try and mitigate that mess. No idea if he wholeheartedly supported those decisions at the time but he wasn’t the shot caller.

Nice try Stanky. Stop denying it. You are COMPLICIT. You were a big part of the process and therefore share in the responsibility.

Bad decisions driven by big egos and lack of BOD oversight!

T needs a long term strategy to grow the business. In all seriousness, the only strategy we ever have is to cut costs. That is not a strategy.
When we have a ceo who can convey a long term strategy to its board and employees, then I will feel like we are on a path to success.

Uverse was/is a good idea. ATT should have deployed more fiber instead of buying DTV.

M&A strategy was the responsibility of AT&T Corporate Strategy at the time RLS was AT&T CEO. Take a guess who the leader was of Corp. strategy? Then the BoD had the nerve to reward him CEO for such a wonderful M&A execution.... Way to go JTS. Can't wait for the publication in Harvard Business School titled " The rise and fall of AT&T at the hands of JTS". Will go down in history as one of the worst CEO's ever.

Stankey was in charge of strategy when DTV and TimeWarner were acquired. He either was in favor of them or held his nose while he did it. It all stinks and he was a senior executive involved

Stankey was complicit in acquisition of Direct TV and Warner Media. Enough said.

Exactly! The OP is missing a few details to the story. I’ll add this point, as well- it was Stankey who wanted to sell DTV and WB, he was forced to exit assets by an activist investor and the board.
Stankey is doing nothing on his own at this point. He’s being provided the game plan to get the stock up and he’s executing the play.
His ability to do much more than that is severely hampered.
Last point- the activist investor and the board did not want him as the CEO. He was basically the last person standing in the room.

Whose idea was Uverse?

Wrong. Buying Directv and time Warner was his brainchild. He’s the one who sold it to Ratty
