Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Does anybody at WFC management care why people are leaving?

There's no exit interview and most people who quit are told to not do their notice period. That sounds more like the bank is happy to get rid of them as soon as possible rather than figure out why they're leaving. If we were having usual levels of attrition I'd understand that, but so many more folks are walking away that I can't understand how it's not ringing any alarm bells at the top.

They don't care. Simple as that.

It's human nature - when THEY don't care about us, then they shouldn't expect us to care about THEM.

Every person leaving is a new hire offshore. No worries for management when you can get a software engineer for $15/hr. What go around, comes around.

There’s a nonsense exit survey, which I don’t recommend taking. It is definitely not anonymous. I gave accurate feedback and detailed exactly why I left. Months later, WF emailed me out of the blue and sent me a calendar invite for the very next morning to discuss things that didn’t align with their vision and values.
I don’t know if they actually expected me to attend or if it was just to check the box and say, well, we tried to investigate but the employee didn’t cooperate.
I told them I’d talk to them another time (since I have a job at a functional company now). They basically said too bad, and wouldn’t confirm that they were even going to take my survey responses in aggregate and send them to leadership, which was the reason I completed it in the first place.

They don't need to ask when they know it's FRTO.

No, the goal of the new regime has been to shrink the company. They are throwing the baby (real irreplaceable talent) out with the bath water.

The attrition is so high right now and HR is so far behind in trying to recruit due to the old school return to office strategy driven by Charlie and his followers. Even if WF did care about why people leaving they don’t have the means to do anything about it. That train has left the station.

"Managers are given staffing level goals tied to bonuses"

Aren't you oversimplifying? Bonuses are also tied to productivity. After all, I can induce all my directs to leave and produce 0. Will that get me a bonus?

They pay you up until your notice date, so it's not like they're saving money by having them not show up.

Managers are given staffing level goals tied to bonuses. Plain and simple. No one at this bank, managers included, care about you. Bonuses are what count. Move on before you fall to the toxicity. God Bless.

They don't care even if they know why. They've been on a spree in some areas to hire from the outside. So that's probably part, new blood/ideas, getting read of dead wood, ignoring seasoned people who know the bank but don't get anywhere.

Oh, and sh*t leadership in various areas.

I think they celebrate the fact that it’s one less severance payout

Regardless of targeted staffing levels, they should care, to ensure that key people are not leaving.

OP - If you have been working here longer than 4yrs and asking this question, Then you need to pay attention to whats going on around you. This was announced years ago. that the bank was too staff heavy for what it was producing compared to its competitors. The last CEO mentioned that was looking to reduce staff 25%+ at that time we were at 280K. short answer. This is what they wanted.

No. They don’t care. They have too many people.

You should be aware of that before you take a job and/or evaluate your career.

No doubt layoffs are coming.

If your lifespan is 3-5 years, would you care? The company is a shell of what it was 3 years ago before chainsaw.

Quarterly profit enthusiasts applaud individuals leaving the company voluntarily. No questions needing to be answered. Fast forward a few quarters....suddenly we are understaffed and we get dull platitudes from whoever the new CEO or division leader is, outlining that the "challenges that the company faces are industry wide" as our new plight. Short term profits (versus long term company viability) is what drives these short term prophets of the industry!
