Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Jeremy Legg - a younger technology saavy Ed Whitacre?

He is not a Bell head. May not understand all the complexities of underlying technologies or serpentine regulatory complexities. But he seems quite personable and speaks positively about the company's history and potential. Projects positivity about business opportunities. Tries to inspire based on foundation that exists rather than fear and negativity. Is this too optimistic a read?

I don't need Legg to be an HR person. He has stated his preference of building up technology in house rather than outsourcing it and that AT&T change in direction is good enough for me.
I wouldn't want him to be a CEO.

Legg is a dummy talking head. No vision for product development and ultimately will outsource and cut staff to make numbers

Please quit trying to put Legg on a pedistile. He's done nothing.

Individual bonus plan in Legg's org is another joke. He says bonus should be "significant" and he restructured the individual bonus such that if you aren't on a "visible" project, you won't get one no matter how much you do. So, the number of bonuses that go out is only to the select few. One now even requires your manager to make a "video" to even be nominated (not get). Like that is going to ever happen for most people given the apathy of managers to put any work forward.

I do know people who got one for basically nothing except being on the right project and way many others who did way more on non-visible ones and got nothing.

During one town hall when people were complaining about the poor raises that weren't even keeping up with inflation, he claimed the individual bonus award was supposed to cover that.

Who cares?
What's with the attention to people 7 levels above you?
Jeez folks, it's a job.

Legg talks the talk but doesn't deliver. Watch his town halls and he'll claim anything is on the board, until they skip the question he doesn't want asked--par for the course for other executives but with him, you can see the most voted on questions and how he'll skip them. Then he'll claim he'll answer all of them and post the answers and that never happens either. Someone even posted on the town hall web site "where are the answers to the questions?" and that got ignored also.
I also couldn't agree more about how he just fluffed off questions about benefits cuts even making comments like "I'm not eligible for those so what's the big deal?" or "we've talked about that before, next."

What's with the Whitacre worship on this site ? Pull your head out your rear already, he ruined the company by making Rand the successor.

Legg certainly came off as a fresh face and attitude. His true self, came through when retiree benefits and other long time benefits were on the chopping block.
During one of his TownHalls, it certainly seemed like he delivered a brand new incentive plan. One that seemed to have great potential. It sounded like a wonderful idea, delivered to the corporation by him for ITO.
Well, in actuality, it was the entire corp on the same program. In the end, turns out, if someone was nominated for the Spot awards, well, someone else couldn't be nominated the next month, or was so believed by my boss.

Legg, nothing more than another Carpet Bagger.

We need to move forward, Randy and Stank failed and squandered billions in their era. I wouldn’t suggest looking back to Whitacre, his management style has been out of touch for decades. Old school “leadership” is what gotten the company into the debt ho-e. Wall Street bankers will always back another m&a deal while getting paid.

Legg might have a chance, I wouldn’t count on internet security as a paid product. Which one of you is willing to pay while spammers continue to outgun security barriers? Just another junk fee, unless Legg can really deliver something truely magical.

Yeah...Legg is par for the course...when Stank and HR were taking away retiree benefits, long term employees vacation, and retiree life insurance...he was the one that got pi---d when employees asked about it and said he really didnt want to hear any more questions about it...REAL a$$ho-e.

All I learned from the Hot Ones knock off: Legg handled 50,000 scovile much better than Stankey. Sean Evans would be very disappointed in their weak 'sauce'.

He might have "good" intentions, but at the end of the day , anyone at the C-suite level only has one priority , improving quarterly shareholder value while keeping a neatly packed golden parachute.

T is a big corp. and unless you get a Steve Jobs level leader that can't transform the entire org, one person can't undo the the year and corporate culture built up around legacy leaders and legacy policies. All that to say I don't see anything changing radically in T.
