Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

BTC/KLTC engineer quality of deliverables not up to par - TMTS imploding soon?

Heard from inner technology circles that quality of deliverables outsourced to BTC/KLTC is poor triggering a relook into the type of work ported to the tech center. Pay a freshie engineer in Asia USD10-15k/yr and get them to churn out useless report, it is anyone's guess that quality will be subpar.

Make no mistake the asia tech center are here to stay. Upper Management will tolerate the sub-quality work, blame the supervisors and call it a day. #winning #We Are Exxonmobil

Seems no one is happy regardless where they are located, and they all think it is the guy on the other side of the globe was given an unfair advantage.
So, the truth is…?

BTC workers are dedicated and hard workers. The quality is good. The cost savings too.

The technical circles will have their analysis of the situation watered down, reworded, and mostly ignored. As the word makes it through the many chains of reporting, the message will change. Just like the telephone game we played in grade school. Exxon will do whatever they can to make the result fit the narrative, because no one wants to show any negativity by communicating a message of failure. In the meantime, attrition will continue. Those positions that can be backfilled will be backfilled by new hires who will be told to mentor the foreigners who are on the opposite time schedule. More incidents will follow, and management ranks will be cleaned up by placing blame and PIPing them. Find another company while you can, before hiring freezes during the upcoming recession.

@axk+1hSWoYVn you obviously have not worked with either BTC/KLTC if you think they can make a decision. TMTS and other mass outsourcing efforts will fail it’s just a matter of time…

@jmd is right. The pendulum won't swing back. The Asians will keep applying themselves whole we teach them now and the westerners will sit around and wait until a computer program, Google or an Asian counterpart can give an answer and make a decision. Hence the continuing decline of our current way of life. Oh well f it. "Put another drink in my hand....."

Long term is to move as much technical competency to BTC/KLTC. Once this transition has occurred, it will remain in Asia forever even if salaries inevitably increase to par with western salaries. Those envisioning a future where this trend will reverse are like those folks that think American manufacturing will come back from China, wrong. America couldn't even make medical effing masks during COVID. And pretty soon, America won't know how to design pumps, furnaces, or even entire petrochemical plants. Instead, this nation will be paying top dollar to the very individuals that now command 1/5 of our salary. Good luck. The PIPs will continue until moral improves.

The charade will continue for the short term . Longer term will be blend of Western consultants and senior BTC/KLTC as they get more experience. The experienced ones will immediately ask for more and the consultants silly accept a bit less closing the cost advantage gap Pendulum will swing back ho hum
