Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Management layoffs

Are managers in charge of about 20-30 people less likely to be laid off? I think that's why technical people become managers so that they are safer.

Actually, under the Legecy T Pension plan, you have to be off payroll by the last day in November to get the 2022 lump rate. If you leave in December, you get the 2023 rate. Call Fidelity.

Lump sums plummeting January 1 due to interest rates. A lot of people will leave in late November early December.

No, this is VP and HR in which they have to build a business case and get legal approval. Then your local managers L2/Dir/AVP will provide a stack rank and the lowest will go based on the headcount cuts needed (this is for Management only). For barging folks its easy, less tenure will go. It will be hard to cut HC in 2022 being that it's so late in the year.

Managers are probably the least safe employees at T.

I don't believe technicians will be selected for layoff candidates. I believe T wants to keep as many techs on the payroll as possible that aren't part of the infrastructure support group. Techs that are installers in WiFi and Business Services are hot commodities and in demand these days.

In an area where there is a lot of work going on, like in certain parts of Mobility the answer is probably yes. A L2 Area Manager is more likely to have to select a couple non bargained folks from his team in the event of a layoff than be laid off himself to hit whatever number they have been provided.
