Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Doing a good job has become secondary in Chevron

Easily what frustrates me the most is our detachment from the old Chevron Way mantra, "do a good job, grow the company, and you will advance". It's well documented here that 'doing a good job' has become secondary in Chevron to preferred demographics and cronyism - they advance. Stunningly, there seems to be no motivation anymore, at any level, to grow the company. We spend our time now fascinating on diversity and networks, and our management seems content to milk the legacy assets for the time they have left. We throw billions of dollars at business new ventures (has never produced anything profitable), venture capital (again, nothing profitable has ever materialized), and vague 3rd party research (bottomless money pit). You just know the money that will be thrown at the green transition will amount to nothing. There was a time we were all proud to be on Team Chevron. Now, we're just hoping we can keep our jobs before the company craters.

This needed to be on the top. Posted by @1hcs+1hOEIFhf.

Unfortunately this is true across many large companies. Innovation and risk-taking is now only found in start-ups. Chevron does nothing to cultivate innovators or risk-takers.

Chevron right now is a very, very confused company. This is what comes from a lack of true leadership (read that, leadership with no track record of accomplishment, just a track record of promotions), an aversion to innovation (that is, when you depend on Microsoft and Schlumberger to tell you what the future will be like), and, strangely enough, deliberately pulling your capital out of forward-looking ventures, and instead putting it into dividends (akin to throwing money away) and stock buybacks (an admission you have no financially worthy projects).

When Chevron joined the World Economic Forum, they sacrificed competition on the alter of conformity. Chevron yet again proves they’re a ‘fast follower’.

Just about answers this OPs query….

Downfall of Chevron
Those who say that Chevron is in a downfall, I would like to hear their arguments and opinions about the main reasons that led to that downfall.

Those who can’t see or don’t understand the train wreck chevron is in or what’s coming is another reason why we continue to fall behind.

I guess the tipping point came when MW gave in to the greenies and started worrying about foolish notions (for an oil company) like carbon capture and taking money from upstream and putting it into gas from cow manure (still a "highlighted" technology). Completely in character for a CEO who worries more about (fill in the blank - whatever is trendy today) than running and growing an oil company. Remember the days not too long ago when JW shrugged off the greenies and said 'oil is going to be the major source of energy for many decades to come'?

Couldn’t agree more, I’ve rarely hear any references anymore to the The Chevron Way or “There is always time to do it right”. Our lack of investment in any meaningful exploration is very telling for our future. I think we’re headed for a merger of some kind or divestment/spinoff of certain parts of our business. Time will tell the tale as they say. One things is for sure we’re not even close to company we once were and our priorities are certainly not what you would expect from an oil and gas exploration, production and refining company posed for any form of future growth in the sector. So prepare yourselves for more change is the message.
