Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

You are replaceable

T silos jobs to make each employee have a narrow scope then starts outsourcing. Comments like too many mouths to feed send the message that employees are not valued and we are all replaceable. Management wants replaceable widgets then complains that employees are disengaged. This is a toxic environment.

He should have said "you employees are the most valuable assets", then laid off the unneeded workers.

While they can get rid of or replace just about any individual, they always have to have a certain number of people around who know what they're doing in areas that perform important functions. So while having knowledge and skills doesn't povide perfect protection, it does have some value. The problem with T is there are so many white collar/management employees around whose only product is bu-----t. Of course these people can fairly easily be replaced by anyone who knows Powerpoint and Excel, and can speak a little corporate-speak. In reality, their job is to fill the boxes on an org chart, to justify yet another VP's job, so how hard could it be to replace them? Because there are so many of these useless and easily replaced "managers" on payroll, it's easy to think that the whole company is comprised of them, but if you go below decks and down to the engine room, you find out that's not entirely true. They're just the most visible. A lot of them have MBA degrees. Having an MBA is a sure sign of not having any real skills (other than the production of bu-----t, if you can call that a skill).

Click on Verizon under the related companies on the top. They aren’t happy either.

I'll happily let them replace me

Give me my 15 years of Severence and I'll peace put.

Until then I'm sitting right here doing the absolute bare minimum required to not get fired collecting that fat hourly, not caring a bit, because I promise they don't care one bit about us.

All I am to this company is my attuid and how many lines did I sell in the current month. Because your name certainly doesn't matter and what happened last month doesn't matter either (sales)

truth - no other company treats their employees like att,

att is a cesspool and deserves what they get,

they could care less about the employees and that reflects in everything they touch.

directors and vps are a joke along with security, att needs a clean house otherwise it will never change,

There’s no value in knowledge. The value is being in the right department, having a boss that has upper level connections and your geographic work location.

This is the most accurate statement I've seen on this website in the last 2 years! This is exactly how the business is run no doubt about it!

silo jobs also means that your job security is based more on what your job assignment is rather than how much you know. I've seen many a person either let go our outsourced solely because of the project they were assigned to.
