Lots of biz serv techs(cpe & specials) been getting paid well to sit around the office for the past several years with little to no work
Not sure which area of the country you're in, but OOR is very busy with 911! Regardless of the workload, technicians are in need and T knows it. They'll leave one area of the country if they are forced and will move to another just to stay with T. T pays its techs very well! Pay you can't get at any other company for the most part.
Biz Serv is losing 911 psaps in droves in some areas. Also not much specials work or specials wire tech work either.
BIZ Serv is getting very busy with 911 work and is actually in need of technicians! There are no layoffs happening in ABS! There are a lot of technicians in ABS that would like to get an offer, but it seems it will never happen!
Biz Serv. We don’t do layoffs. More likely to add headcount regardless of workload.
40 year opt, been dead for last 10, nobody noticed
25 years as a tech which puts me middle of the pack in my crew. I feel safe enough but could possibly be bumped and have to change titles. I don’t care if they make me scrub toilets as long as the pay doesn’t change lol
I'm ready to go and would be delighted to be laid off. I'm sure there's zero chance of that so my position is absolutely safe.

I have seen this exact management person laid off several times over the last 5-7 years.
Sounds like you are bright and have your ducks in a row, and that's all great...but you also seem to have a significant sense of self-importance.
They will lay you off without missing a beat.

@awe+1 here... I'm probably about your age, but a manager.
Good plan. I never understood why people would leave a situation like yours to be the greeter at the front door of a Home Depot or start over in another similar position. I've had direct reports that did, and really weren't that happy with a 24 year old boss.
It's one thing to leave a place mid-career for a great opportunity, but once the seniority builds (or experience and past performance in mgmt) and we get older, it makes a lot more sense to turn off the noise, stay involved and productive, and work to the finish line.
I'm a long-time manager with wide experience and lots of irons in national projects. I work as both a supervisor and IC, with both employees and vendors. I'm sure anyone could be cut, but based on new projects coming to me, and how I'm treated at compensation time, I'm not worried. I got my first layoff scare decades ago, broadened my skill set, got my financial house in order and volunteered for new projects as often as I could.
I'm financially secure enough that I could have retired years ago, and I think that makes a lot of things a lot less stressful. It also makes it easy to speak out and respectfully challenge my bosses. I ignore the noise, gossip, and BS, and can care less who is CEO or how many houses they own. I still work at T because I'm still young and enjoy the compensation and challenges.
Exactly, high seniority bargained for personnel are completely safe! As for management personnel, it's anybody's guess! I just wish T would poll employees both on the union side and management side to see who would be willing to leave voluntarily rather than being laid-off involuntarily! T will have to pay a severance package either way, might as well allow the people that are willing to leave, leave on their terms!
High seniority union employees are safer than most.
On the mgmt side, nobody is safe.
