Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Every problem stems from no night crew

Prove me wrong. Every aspect of the daily operations of the club stems from no dedicated overnight crew. Show me how anything at all has improved from getting rid of it.

Overnight crew was eliminated to reduce costs. That's it, in a nutshell. Block scheduling was implemented in order for stores to be able to function at a minimal level. Everything else they told you about possible advantages was an outright lie. It's all about money and keeping shareholders content.

We were told part timers were to fill in between shifts but that never happened because the part timers called the shots on when they were working... never a weekend either.

For us full timers that worked nights we were told Saturday was not an option to have off, which is understandable since this is retail.... bring on all the new hires and part timers, weekends off !

Agreed about the hype. Our gm hyped it up saying there would be hundreds of people stocking hundreds of pallets in just the morning hours and the store would be set for the day. Plus mid shift people (which actually never happened). All that has happened is the old night crew left for other overnight shift jobs.

Indeed! We were told that the elimination of non-member facing positions and restructuring of positions such as Personnel, Accounting, Audit Team, Claims, Receiving, Night Crew as well as Photo Center and Wireless no longer being on the payroll that a majority of those hours saved would all go to the floor to help the member experience and to help get everything done on the floor. We were told there would be associates at every turn!

Haha, hype is right, 90% of our night crew quit, they did not stay and become an army of stockers on am or pm crew. Can’t keep any merchandise positions filled. Revolving door.

I don’t know about your club, but at our club when night crew was eliminated the management hyped it up and promised everyone that this change would enable the club to have TONS of associates on the floor throughout the day. We’d have SO MANY associates on the floor that we’d have people everywhere every day doing audits, stocking, zoning, layout changes, member service, helping in receiving, claims, etc. What happened to all of that?

They improved their bottom line. We are going down to three registers. If members don't want to use scan n go, or self-check, Sam's Club don't want them. They cost the company too much money. ANd they will eventually succumb to using scan n go or self-check.

Some high volume Clubs have a small night crew. Pretty much for merchandising only because they don’t clear the dock or unload dc’s.

Can’t complain. On night shift I would get a little overtime around Christmas. Now I get a ton of overtime all year long. Even in January and February when hours use to get cut. It was a lot easier on nights and I could get a lot more done.

The only thing that matters to large corporations, profit margin. That's why in the next few years we will have significantly less cashiers.
