Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Voluntary offer

I would love nothing more than a voluntary offer. Why do people think that the time of voluntary offers has passed and that there may never be such offers again (or at least for a long, long time)?

A GBS SAL just got a package to voluntarily leave, which tells me those roles and/or that segment are soon to be impacted

Voluntary retirement packages might occur some time down the road I would guess. At this time the executive level is evaluating the needs of the business and as usual, can easily determine which areas of the business are growing and which are shrinking or will no longer be part of the recipe for future growth. T already knows where downsizing will occur and are waiting for the right time to spring it on the front line workers I hope, the sooner the better for the employees affected so they can apply for positions elsewhere. The job market is very good and there's plenty of opportunity out there, so fear not and move forward!

They may get more voluntary retirements this year if the segment rates continue trending higher the way they’ve been so far this year. I’m already down 80k this year as of March and expect it to get much worse as the months go by. Hope I’m wrong but my gut tells me otherwise

That train is out of the station and gone. Far cheaper for t to just make your life he-l and you leave for free to them. Overwork you and pressure you and put new hurdles on you until you just give up. Have a nice day.

Com'on Man...the voluntary layoff is intended for everyone presumably and those eligible will gladly take it whether they're good employees or just mediocre. The dead wood as you refer to will also take it, I'm sure! Why wouldn't they if they're eligible for it! If you can get out a little earlier than you planned, go for it! The company might never give another offer again and that's assuming they give one in the very near future!

At this point a voluntary layoff will inspire the most motivated and competitive employees to leave. The dead wood will continue hanging around, nor believing that the voluntary layoff was intended for them.

If there was going to be any additional manpower reductions, I believe an announcement of some sort would have been made by this point! So far, it’s been, read between the lines, draw your own conclusion about layoffs. To date, nothing in 2022 and why is that? The spin-offs have already been concluded. T is on a path to focus on the business at hand which is to gain momentum in the 5G and fiber race. T needs to build on their promise to invest and accomplish the goals set forth. It’s quite possible layoffs will be at a minimum this year.

Let's see..medicrel gap insurance taken away, benefits in retirement taken away, life insurance now 15K, pension benefit percentages lowered etc. etc. Need I say more? The company is not giving but taketh thee away these days. Just happy to be employed at this point and not even sure how long I will be unfortnately.

Yep, it’s why I stayed craft and didn’t venture into management. Can’t beat the job security in craft once you have seniority. They also can’t sc--w with your benefits like they do with management. Now If only the union would quit getting on its knees and blowing c-suite , we might regain some lost benefits.

Why would anyone down vote this? It is completely true.

A voluntary offer would be cheaper than the surplus, and certainly cheaper than keeping folks on payroll year after year. Need to show a bold vision to match Verizon's act from a few years ago. Management thinks they have a better Excel tool than employees. This is a dollar-and-cents game, not loyalty. Rather than take courageous decisions and get a good restart, they have followed the iterative approach of small ineffective steps. Org announcements so far have been uninspiring though they have had almost a year to plan for it.

I agree, will also stay here til 70 and laugh all the way to the ATM! Part-time work, full-time pay! Why leave now when the economy is struggling with inflation, high energy costs, high fuel costs, higher taxation coming along with a recession. Just not the ideal time to go on a fixed income! T will take care of me!

Voluntary offers are applicable only when normal attrition doesn't deal with over-staffing. They're not going to make offers if they then have to hire to back-fill the person leaving.

Not with Stank in charge, he will just say the market conditions shifted and layoff is fact of life. The same way he whined about raising labor cost, paying people an incentive to leave isn't in his DNA.

Well as craft , I don’t care if they offer me to leave. I’ll gladly stay here till I’m 90 making bank. I surf the web, bu-----t all day , take my sweet time. I’m already retired in place.

I wish I had a quarter for every manager that said from 2010 thru 2016 that VTPs were never gonna happen anymore. And guess what, in Sept., 2017 they were given out like free turkeys during Thanksgiving! So, NEVER say NEVER!!! You better wake up!

T pulls in $125B annually! Don't coil up like a loser and tell people that T can't afford to give its employees offers to leave! T can easily afford it and just might do the right thing.
Unless you're the CFO of AT&T, you more than likely are clueless in what you're talking about. This country is heading into a recession and all the economists know this and have asserted this more times than I can count! T will have to do something to reduce its
operating costs, no doubt about it! Hang on to your T branded shorts, it's gonna get interesting!

T is not going to pay you to go home and not work. You already do that enough on the clock as evidenced by your presence here.

It takes money. Something we don’t have at ATT.
Add debt, too many outstanding shares, failed T-Mobile transaction reducing cash on hand and the last but not least- C level doesn’t give a sh*t about the employees who served the company well.
Add to that, we are going through a company initiated reorg that will cost money to execute.
Recycle this a few times and you’ll understand why there’s no money for a voluntary offer to leave.
