It may sound ideal, not having a lot of work and receiving a paycheck, but to me it's worrying. The rest of you, how busy are you?

Life in middle management is much the same. Lots of pointless status meetings. Lots of contractors working on things that probably don't matter. Lots of delays so it didn't matter if you failed to update some wiki. When you get something tricky to solve, no one else knows what to do either. It feels like things change so fast that no one has a chance to get good at anything.
I keep myself very busy doing very productive responsibilities to increase my net worth. The goal of every company should be to maximize shareholder value - I maximize my value!! The company doesn't care about you and you have to put yourself first so plan and execute carefully and decisively

This person hit the bullseye. This is terrible management. Imagine this is across Ts footprint and the expense. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
I'm a few posts down. They asked me to work today.
In at 8. Had a job 96 miles away to the west from my garage.
Pre called, left a message.
Got there, no one home, good to the prem. NA
Hit the button, got a job 58 miles east of my garage. Due Monday.
That's 154 miles from where I am. NA on the pre call.
Just got there.
People told me to leave as it's a Holiday weekend and they have guests.
Ok. I apologized and NA'd the job for the due date.
Hit the button.
No jobs. Called the duty foreman. sounded like he was at a party. Duty foreman told me I could go home.
Nope. Still have 3 hours to get my 8.
Listening to baseball and watching the turkeys strut in the field.
At the gas station where I just put $140 worth of gas in the bucket truck and have accomplished nothing.
For $84 an hour.
And they wonder.
My OOR big city cant even keep techs interested in staying more than a few years with their terrible management style. Plenty of leftover work with the turnover.
Ah yes the taking away of your work to the ones they like, friends, and family. Leave or find a different management chain that isn’t so week. Good luck !
And people wonder why the stock is tanking.
Look for massive hiring in SSIM as the work load continues to shrink.
very busy and that is good
Usually when they take work away or have none to give you, it means you are being targeted in the next layoff, at least for management.
Did one job out of the garage.
Nothing since.
Just got a call asking me to work tomorrow as I'm the senior person and have rights of first refusal.
Well it's the last day of the pay period, I'll be on double time.
Sure, I'll come in.
Another 120 hour paycheck for working maybe 20.
And yet they keep hiring more and more technicians!
I hope we can all keep this on the down low. I would hate for Stankey to find out how little work there is. He might try to take some type of corrective action.
No work here for 2+ years, they keep saying the work is coming. Like taking candy from a baby!
I’m very busy and have been for the last six years. Reading the comments here makes me think I need to reevaluate my situation. I may want to take a lower paying gig with no work, then start a side hustle to create more overall income.
All of these years I thought hard work was the answer here. What I’ve come to realize is it’s being a high seniority union member, knowing someone up the chain that can provide a low work high paying job or wing related to the c suite.
Time to make an adjustment.
This person is not kidding, when I was in wholesale there was never work and from what I understand still none, but they never did anything, one time I came in late probably once in 41 years and I told my manager I was in traffic and no one would answer he said ok I didnt know you were not here. Thanks. Believe me there are many other things to worry about, you have kids?
I did that 40 years….they sent me a nice retirement check at the end. Relax. There really slow.
Another day in Business Services. They’ll probably add people.
Extremely busy all the time and happy
In ATS there is no real work maybe 8 hrs a week in totality. Everyone is just trying to look busy and creating excel and ppt. Oh and lotsa meetings
Bye Troll.
It's not the bargained for employees that are the problem! It's the executive management that could make profit if they ran a garage sale because it's all about their own pockets ad profits. Don't worry, no layoffs for union personnel, but they should be offered a VTP at the very least. That would get lots of old timers off the payroll!
I won't get laid off.
I've 32 years.
You'll be gone long before I am.
On double time as 49 hours in. $84 an hour to drive.
Still driving to the job. Lots of deer, turkeys.
Safety first. Speed limits.
I don't make the rules, they do.
So go be disgusted or more likely jealous somewhere else.
They called me to take this job.
Why don't you understand that?
As a good employee, I took the job for the customer.
Stopped at Culvers for a sammich.
And a chocolate shake and some fries.
Folks like you are actually the issue.
I just go where I'm asked when I'm asked.
And making big $$$$$.
Perhaps get a tech job and you can do the same.
Of course you'll get cold, wet, hot and have to wear something besides Crocs.
Probably want to sit this one out and collaborate more.
God you union folks disgust me. I’m not saying you are the whole problem by any means, but you only need to look in a mirror to understand why this company is suffering. Can’t wait until next year when that silly “no layoff” clause expires.
We have no work, bloated management, $150billion in debt, too many outstanding shares and a dumpster fire of a corporate strategy. Many people see all that as success- it’s going to be a long road from this point forward.
I did 1 job today. All they had. Cut service wire.
- 5 hours including driving.
Now I just got a call to pick up a job 2 hours away. Woke me up.
I've got my 8 in, and actually worked only1.5 hrs.
But I'll go.
Get easy 5-6 hours of OT.
And they'll thank me for it.
These are good times.
The reason T is in terrible shape is because there isn't much growth in telecom. And too many workers.
The reason T is in horrible shape is they spent $150b on television instead of fiber.
That's $45+ per hour to do nothing and loving it! Don't worry about a thing in terms of headcount reductions! T is keeping all available techs on the payroll because we were already informed of lots of work coming in June. There's no work now, but our team is still hiring one more tech for future workload. No indications of any layoffs whatsoever...fear not!
Not very busy. I would not be too surprised if a few people in our group was laid off.
Not your responsibility to find work.
Appear busy.
Go put some new numbers on a ped.
Dump some Pea Gravel in one.
Keep the truck moving every 30 minutes.
If work comes in, go do it.
This is why T is in horrible shape.
$40 an hour+ to do little.
