Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Has a manager ever been held responsible for something that was done wrong at work.

I certainly never saw that scenario. Whatever is done wrong while working or if a mistake was made the entire blame is always shifted towards the employees. I understand that employees do make mistakes but generally in most situations the manager makes the final decision. Are managers really that protected at this company no matter what they do?

Managers can get in trouble for business related issues pretty easy. Execution of company directives is a must. But !!!! If they get reported for being nasty to associates or playing favorites or bullying it is near impossible to get them in trouble. We have a manger who is responsible for at least 40 people leaving the club because of how she treated them. She is protected by the GM. Unless she steals from the company or something equally as bad for business she is NEVER going to get in trouble.

There is no free lunch. At each level stress increases alot. A lot of communication takes place that associates never hear. I have heard a senior level manager scream at the store managers and assistants under them over the phone.

answer is yes!. you just know it cause they usually get fired quick for dubious sudden unrelated circumstances. Managers are dime a dozen there's a large list of potential managers and managers waiting to come on. In the companies eyes. why settle for failure when you can just swap out for a yes man who will flogg the peasants for the good of the company.

Unfortunately in our club, particular managers do hold other associates accountable for directions they themselves had given. Our CM wants more coachings for the associates and TL's for not executing the job as he had directed his assistants to relay. As these practices are becoming common, more great associates start leaving with a kn--e behind their backs. These managers including the CM have been reported on however reports are ignored, after all, who listens to non-management. It's their words against ours.

I think managers, in general, are protected. However, I've seen a newbie manager fired, let me see.....sometime back in 2020 because he had been coached. I heard it was a company-wide policy, but who knows. Anyway, I know he was fired. We had a team lead let go several years back because I reported him for se-----y harassing one of the young female employees. One of our managers has been coached several times - or so I've heard. I know he/she was once, because ....well, better not tell that story. I know of other team leads being fired and I'm sure managers have been coached/fired in other places.

Understand, unless you have direct knowledge, a manager isn't going to talk about being coached anymore than other people will. Most people and I understand not all feel this way, but most people in my store feel ashamed when they have been coached and don't want to talk about it. And I was told not to talk about it the few times I've been coached. Like I obeyed that rule. If I had I wouldn't have been able to force him/her to remove that one coaching. Still, unless it's something really out there, I believe managers are protected.
