I think the reputation, and for a good reason too, has never been worse. It is sad that leadership does not seem to be aware of the risk of a bad reputation. Or perhaps they don’t attach much importance to it at all?

When I am asked where I retired from I just say a large telecommunications company.
The expression — ‘The company gives you money’….is nuance…..meaning ATT provides you with a paycheck.
The company doesn’t give us money to feed our families and pay our bills. We go to work to earn it. Some have been injured on the job and still go to work and are paid for the work they do, put up with stupid numbers, harassment and id--tic ideas. AT&T isn’t some magical benevolent company just handing out money because they are nice.
We keep the network running in spite of the company’s best efforts.
T reputation is that there are lots of whiners. Big time crybabies.
The checks clear.
I can work all the OT I want.

Again, if you hate the company that so generously gives you money to feed, house, clothe yourself and family...get out. Stop spending countless years denigrating your cash cow. But you won't leave cause you've never had it so good....after all, who else would hire you? Eventually, though, your number will come up. And we'll applaud.

Tommy was in the 4th grade and each student was assigned to give a 5 minute presentation on their father's job. As presentations were going on the teacher noticed Tommy was quiet all morning and call on him to go next. Tommy slowly walked to the front of the class and began: "My dad is a stripper in a nightclub. The patron put tips in a jar for him at the front of the stage. If one of them is generous and gives him a big tip he goes home with them that night for some more fun". The teacher is stunned and dismissed the class for an early recess. As the students are filing out she calls Tommy over and says "That's not really what you father does is it?" Tommy replies "No it's not. He works for AT&T but I was too embarrassed for the other kids to know" LOL

Considering the number of acquisitions and iterations of the company including wireline and wireless....it's amazing that the corporation has managed to stay afloat and continue to employ still over 200K people. I worked for that 'other IXC' who didn't fare quite as well as ATT (formerly SBC) in certain years--re: Bernie Ebbers. The fellas over at that other company perpetrated massive fraudulent accounting schemes so much so that congress had to write new laws in an attempt to prevent future similar accounting fraud. Now that's some kind of 'reputation' to overcome. Verizon has changed it's name, made acquisitions and mergers and seen its stock plummet--fortunately ATT's stock has never been wiped out like theirs.. And yet both companies continue to stump, stumble and grow. If you're going to be in this business, you need to have thick skin and not worry about 'reputation'...either that you move on to another industry.
Proud that AT&T is the one of the companies that make communication work and my work directly makes that happen.
Does anyone acknowledge working for T outside of work? I never voluntarily disclose WO working for T when meeting new people.
T’s reputation is right there with cnn. Go look at how many people are viewing cnn.
People are moving on from T no matter how many computer science degrees T employs.
Have neighbors ask me about their bill from T because they know I use to work there and I just tell them to move to a company that cares about providing you service and not just taking your money.
Has it? 99.99% don't care or pay attention, the rest are ignored.
Reputations are overrated. Only thing that matters is profit, which has been declining about 10% anually.
