The 1500 coffee area is busy all morning and afternoon. I walk by for meetings and see the same faces lingering around day after day. Sometimes they have their laptop but mostly just chatting, catching up with colleagues, and sipping fancy coffee drinks. What a life!

I know a good petrotech who was laid off entirely because a GM saw him slacking off at his desk too often. GM did not know him or what he did. Terrible.
Sometimes we hold meetings there instead of offices or conference rooms. If you're noticing the same people all day, are you down there all day too??
The 1500 cafe is a phreak fishbowl. You can lose your job sitting there too much. Come sit with me on the mezzanine at the Whitehall!
Mostly high-pots down there, trading notes on their next assignments, in between making spreadsheets and powerpoints showing how much value they're adding to the company.
So were all these chatters hosting 1:1 zoom meetings at home with their coffee, socializing all morning and afternoon?
I don't think it's quite as bad as OP suggests, but it does seem like it's the same people down there all hours of the day. Other than socializing, they could get the same done WFH.
This is nothing new, but with no Boomers around anymore, it's just so much more obvious. The participation trophy generation wishes to get paid for socializing.
As the scrum master for the coffee cafe area, I can tell you we are lounging about 20% more efficiently than ever before while drinking 10% less coffee.
You must not have come to the realization yet that in order to get ahead, or in these days, hold on to chevron employment, you have to spend a majority of your time schmoozing and talking about yourself as highly as possible. It’s such an embarrassing culture. That said, let me get back online so I can add the word Agile everywhere I can in my pmp.
I kinda missed the coffee in the breakrooms. It is sort of horrible but it's free and if you add enough milk and sugar it's sufferable.
All the people that I heard wanted to go back to work only wanted to go back so their lunch and coffee could be made for them. Listen to the RTW brainwashing session from January. Our VP of DI said that’s what she was looking forward to.
What one person calls chit chat, upper management calls constructive collaboration. Get with the program, son.
Mind your business.
Same as it ever was.
Maybe their tired of having to sit all day at their desks with an effing oat bag strapped to their faces. I worked 6 hours in the 1500 coffee area yesterday because despite the wonderful masks they make us unclean wear I still can smell the reeking stench of my colleague's Tea Rose perfume 3 cubes over. I spent 2 years detoxing from that smell, might go full haz-mat mask if the headaches return.
